Citizen Conflict, "Focusing on the Fun of the Game Rather Than Blockchain"

The emergence of Web3 technology, which adds the concept of ownership beyond reading and writing, has also had a significant impact on the gaming industry. Influenced by this, GameFi has emerged, allowing players to gain ownership of in-game items they acquire and receive economic rewards by trading with other users.

Last February, QORPO Game Studio's 'Citizen Conflict,' which completed its alpha test, is an FPS game belonging to this GameFi category. Befitting the company's motto of 'aspiring to challenge the limits of games,' it is characterized by being heavily armed with various elements such as quality and systems that differentiate it from existing GameFi games.

The most noticeable point is that it is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 and an open world, which are often seen in the latest games. The choice to differentiate itself from existing GameFi games that rely on profitability rather than game completeness has made people wonder about it not just as a GameFi game, but as a game in itself. Accordingly, we took the time to ask QORPO Game Studio CEO Rastislav Bakala about the future of Web3, the future of Citizen Conflict, and plans for Korean service.

■ It's difficult to succeed in the market with just the profitability of P2E games; what's important is 'fun' as a game

Q. Nice to meet you. Please briefly introduce yourself and QORPO Game Studio.

= Our QORPO Game Studio is a next-generation game developer that provides comprehensive solutions for the Web3 game industry. QORPO aims to lead the industry with the best experts in the gaming industry to connect the convenience of Web2 and the innovation of Web3.

Our goal is to popularize blockchain by onboarding the public to Web3 with high-quality products as the main axis, and to envision true ownership of in-game assets and autonomous operation of eSports.

We are working hard to innovate Web3 in the most accessible way to the public through a basic ecosystem consisting of games such as Citizen Conflict, AniMate, NFT Marketplace, and QORPO ID.

Q. What are your thoughts after finishing the alpha test? If there is any feedback from participants that you remember, please answer together.

= The Citizen Conflict alpha test exceeded our expectations. There were no major problems, and we are receiving positive feedback. We received nearly 5,000 hours of playtime at maximum capacity, accommodating all 2,000 alpha testers. Also, we are pleased and remember that Citizen Conflict is receiving attention from a significant number of influential content creators and influencers, even in the early stages of development.

Q. What was the decisive reason for creating a Web3-based game?

= I think blockchain technology has tremendous potential. The most important and decisive factor in building a Web3 game is the freedom that decentralization provides. In Web3, we can provide players with true ownership of in-game assets. As a result, unlike existing games, Web3 players actually own what they paid for and can further monetize their assets.

Another reason for choosing Web3 is that it solves the problems of eSports. Currently, in the eSports industry, professional players need obsessive training and huge sponsors to dream of entering the big leagues. On the other hand, we offer anyone the opportunity to participate in and compete in eSports leagues thanks to community-organized tournaments.

Q. Then, please tell us what you think about the advantages of Web3-based games and the future vision.

= There are various advantages to Web3-based games. Decentralization, ownership, interoperability, incentives, and community-based can be cited as advantages. First, decentralization means that Web3-based games are built on a distributed blockchain network, meaning there is no central authority controlling the game. This makes the game more secure and transparent, and resistant to censorship.

In existing games, players do not own in-game assets and often cannot sell or trade them. On the other hand, in Web3-based games, players own assets stored on the blockchain. This allows players to trade and sell assets that can have real value.

Web3-based games can interact with other decentralized applications. This means that players can use assets from other games or applications. This creates a more connected and dynamic ecosystem of games and applications.

Web3-based games often use cryptocurrencies and tokens as incentives for players. This can provide players with a more engaging and rewarding experience. Finally, Web3-based games often have a strong community of players and developers dedicated to the success of the game. This can create a more collaborative and supportive environment for players.

The future vision of Web3-based games is to create a more decentralized, interconnected, and engaging gaming ecosystem. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see more advanced gameplay mechanisms, more immersive experiences, and more creative use cases for blockchain technology. Also, as more players and developers enter the Web3-based gaming space, we can see a variety of games and applications that cater to different interests and preferences.

Q. I'm curious why you developed based on the BNB chain.

= Developing a game on Binance Smart Chain (BNB) has several advantages over other blockchain platforms. First of all, BNB has lower transaction fees compared to other blockchain platforms such as Ethereum. This means that game developers can create games with low barriers to entry for players, and players can enjoy a more affordable gaming experience.

Binance Smart Chain has a growing ecosystem of developers, investors, and users, which allows game developers to leverage a community that supports funding, marketing, and other resources.

Ultimately, developing a game on Binance Smart Chain provides game developers with a more efficient, cost-effective, and supportive environment for creating innovative games tailored to a growing player community, which is why we developed with the BNB chain.

Q. In general, P2E games have not paid much attention to quality. I'm curious about your thoughts on this, as they have focused more on blockchain technology than on gameplay.

= Yes, that's right! The problem with P2E games is that most of them have been developed with a focus only on the purpose of generating profits rather than the fun of gameplay. As a result, most of those games are released with a quality similar to games made 10 years ago.

However, it now seems difficult to succeed in the market with just the profitability of uninteresting P2E games. That's why what we want to achieve is to create top-notch games that are equivalent to Web2 games that lead the gaming industry while enjoying the benefits of blockchain technology.

■ Cyberpunk Dystopia + Open World + Web3 = Citizen Conflict

Q. Please explain 'Citizen Conflict,' which your company is developing. What is the development period and what are the main features of the game?

= We have been focusing on developing Citizen Conflict for the past year. The game has an action and cyberpunk dystopian worldview and is a huge project consisting of an open world that lasts throughout the island while providing competitive action in team deathmatch, deathmatch, and conquest, which are most suitable for eSports.

In terms of gameplay, Citizen Conflict allows you to enjoy unique heroes, syndicates, weapons, and masks or various means of transportation. The game world (Ether Islands) consists of 10 unique zones and creates a cyberpunk atmosphere of Bratislava, Slovakia.

Q. What efforts have you made to make 'Citizen Conflict' a game that fits well with Web3?

= In order to make Citizen Conflict a game that fits well with Web3, we scouted experts in the blockchain-related industry to develop the game, and we thoroughly researched the games currently on the market in order to create a game that evokes a sense of competition between users and does not feel out of place from the planning stage.

Q. As an open-world MMOFPS, I'm curious about how large you are planning the world to be. What content are you planning to fill the field with vitality?

= The area of the game map is approximately 40km^2 (40 square kilometers), and the city is divided into 10 zones inspired by the cyberpunk concept, each visually unique and filled with diverse content.

First, story-driven quests and missions are provided to give players a sense of purpose and progress within the game world. There are dynamic events that occur randomly or on a schedule, such as enemy invasions, natural disasters, or supply drops, which keep the game world alive and dynamic.

Of course, there are also NPCs that fill the game world and provide players with quests, services, and interactions. Through loot and reward systems and crafting and trading systems that encourage players to explore and engage with the game world, players can also create and trade items within the game's world economy.

Q. In order for the marketplace to be 활성화되려면, character development, equipment, and farming must be well harmonized. I'm curious about how you plan to service the marketplace 활성화.

= Currently, our focus is on making the game fun, and we want to provide Web2 players with ownership and options to generate revenue through the game experience.

So we are working to create an environment where players can freely sell their assets or accounts. Also, we do not plan to profit from the process of players selling items. The main problem with blockchain games is that most of them focus on the monetary aspect, but we are trying to focus on the game itself. And all of these characters, skins, and other NFT utilities are mostly available in the game.

Q. I'm curious how character development will be applied in eSports mode. Can you win if you have good character development regardless of your personal control skills?

= We don't develop characters in eSports. We are building IP Citizen Conflict with two separate game builds. The first is eSports with competitive game modes such as conquest or deathmatch, and the other is an MMO build called Syndicate Wars.

Q. Korea is a region where P2E game services are not possible. If you are planning to release in Korea in the future, how do you plan to service it?

= First of all, our game is not P2E. The main goal is to provide a high-quality gaming experience with player ownership and direct distribution of rewards, targeting casual gamers playing in MMO mode and additionally targeting gamers playing eSports in competitive game mode.

Q. Finally, please say a word to the Korean gamers who are waiting for 'Citizen Conflict'.

= Thank you to the Korean gamers who are waiting for Citizen Conflict. In our Citizen Conflict, players will find themselves standing in a vast, futuristic city filled with towering skyscrapers, neon lights, and dark alleys.

Citizen Conflict is a mix of PvE and PvP gameplay where players can team up to fight powerful AI-controlled enemies as well as compete against other players in fast-paced, action-packed combat.

The game's MMO aspect is inspired by 'PlanetSide 2', where players join factions and fight to control territory across the game world. Each group has unique abilities, weapons, and vehicles, giving players a variety of options to customize their play style.

The cyberpunk-style design will be a key element of the game, and players can customize their characters with cybernetic implants, advanced weapons, and futuristic armor. The game features a variety of weapons, including guns, swords, and energy weapons, each with unique abilities and strengths.

Overall, this game will be a thrilling and fast-paced action-packed adventure set in a rich and immersive cyberpunk world that combines the best elements of MMO and eSports gameplay, so please look forward to it.
