Project Zomboid: Are Daggers Really Useless? Comparison Test Results of 5 Secondary WeaponsWe directly experimented with the necessity and efficiency of belt-mounted secondary weapons in Project Zomboid. By comparing and analyzing the zombie-killing abilities of five melee secondary weapons, including the dagger, we clearly show which weapon is the most effective.
Project Zomboid: Are Daggers Really Useless? Comparison Test Results of 5 Secondary Weapons
1. 🤔 Starting the Secondary Weapon Experiment: Doubts About the Dagger
· The debate about dagger secondary weapons in the comments led us to decide on this experiment.
· We decided to personally verify the claim that the dagger is the lightest and can kill 20 zombies consecutively.
· This experiment is limited to melee weapons that can be immediately equipped on the belt; vehicle roadkills and thrown weapons are excluded.

2. 🔫 Secondary Weapons, Are They Really Necessary? How to Use Firearms
· If you're a character specializing in melee weapons, secondary weapons aren't essential; the correct approach is to retreat from the battlefield when your weapon breaks and resupply.
· While you can carry more spare belt-mounted weapons, if you absolutely need one, firearms are recommended.
· You can use a pistol as a secondary weapon when using two-handed melee weapons, and a shotgun when using one-handed melee weapons.
· Firearms can reduce the risk of close combat in crisis situations like inventory shortages, stamina depletion, or injuries, but be cautious of attracting zombies with noise.
· If you're a firearm user, melee weapons are essential. Vanilla firearms lack suppressors, making it unavoidable to use them alongside melee weapons.

3. 🔬 Experiment Conditions: Comparing 5 Secondary Weapons
· The experiment begins with fully equipped firearms and ammo bags. It's conducted with Strength/Fitness at 9, and no points in the "Lightfoot" and "Nimble" skills (level 0).
· We fight zombies with each weapon until it breaks or we become exhausted, measuring only standing attacks and excluding lower attacks.
· The difficulty is set to 'Apocalypse,' and we compare five weapons, excluding the "Nails" which cannot be belt-mounted.

4. 🔪 Hunting Knife: The Limitations of the Dagger
· The 'Hunting Knife,' one of the weapons in our experiment, is the most powerful among daggers.
· It weighs 1, 0.7 when belt-mounted, with a minimum damage of 0.6 and a maximum damage of 1.2.
· In the experiment, the dagger broke after killing 13 zombies.
· This shows that the claim of 'killing 20 zombies consecutively' from the comments is practically difficult.
05:05 - 07:57
5. 🔧 Wrench: Excellent Durability and Efficiency
· We experimented with the 'Wrench,' a powerful and easily obtainable short blunt weapon.
· It weighs 1, 0.7 when belt-mounted, with a minimum damage of 0.5 and a maximum damage of 1.
· It broke after killing 37 zombies. Despite having lower damage than the knife, it killed about 3 times more zombies.
· This is because it doesn't have a sharpness durability multiplier and has high inherent durability.
· This is because it doesn't have a sharpness durability multiplier and has high inherent durability.
07:58 - 09:34
6. 🔨 Hammer: The Importance of Weight
· We experimented with the 'Hammer,' which is used for various tasks like construction and moving furniture.
· It weighs 1.5, 1.05 when belt-mounted, and its damage is the same as the wrench.
· After killing 18 zombies, exhaustion and muscle ache occurred.
· Due to its heavier weight compared to the wrench, its efficiency was lower, emphasizing the importance of weapon weight in the game.
· Nevertheless, it killed more zombies than the hunting knife.
09:35 - 10:59
7. 🪓 Hatchet: The Impact of the Nerf
· We experimented with the 'Hatchet,' used for logging and breaching.
· It weighs 1.5, 1.05 when belt-mounted, with a minimum damage of 0.7 and a maximum damage of 1.5.
· It broke after killing 21 zombies.
· This shows that the triple durability system (handle, head, sharpness) added in build 42 significantly reduced the hatchet's efficiency.
11:00 - 13:43
8. 🔪 Machete: Overwhelming Performance
· We experimented with the 'Machete,' the most powerful belt-mountable weapon.
· It weighs 2, 1.4 when belt-mounted, with a minimum damage of 2 and a maximum damage of 3.
· It caused exhaustion and bruising after killing a whopping 53 zombies.
· Its overwhelming damage allows for very fast zombie kills, and it can be found relatively frequently in gun stores, pawn shops, and on zombies.
· Based on the experiment, it's judged that it's better to use blunt weapons as secondary weapons initially, and then transition to long blades like the Machete or Katana later.
13:44 - 13:55
9. ⚖️ Final Conclusion: Is the Dagger Really Trash?
· The experimental results show that the dagger has very low value as a secondary weapon, and the assessment of it being 'trash' is valid.
· Other secondary weapons like the wrench, hammer, hatchet, and machete showed much superior performance.
· In particular, the machete is the most recommended secondary weapon due to its overwhelming damage and efficiency.
