Elite Min Tae-hwan: "I hope my older teammates will help me win EACC"
Elite Min Tae-hwan defeated Kwangdong Freecs' Choi Ho-seok 3:2 in the FIFA Online 2023 eK League Championship Season 1 held at the Freecup Studio on the 18th, claiming the championship. Elite, his team, also reached the top spot in the team competition thanks to Min Tae-hwan's individual victory.
The following is the full interview with Elite's Min Tae-hwan after his victory.
Q. How do you feel about winning the eK League Championship?
I never thought about winning, my goal was to stay in the league. But somehow I made it to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, and won, so I'm a bit dazed. I think it will take some time to sink in.
Q. Not many people predicted Min Tae-hwan's victory. But it seemed like your skills improved a lot as the tournament progressed.
In the past, the Korean national team selection was done by nomination, and I was the only one who kept getting nominated. I actually lost almost all the time, but I increased my practice a lot to do my part for the team, watched a lot of videos of opposing players, and did a lot of research, which led to good results.
Q. There was talk about rebuilding the prestigious team. It's been a bit sluggish lately, but I think the atmosphere will change with today's victory?
My teammates have amazing championship experience. I thought a lot about how I could help among them. Actually, my goal for this tournament was to do my part, as I said before, rather than winning, but as the tournament progressed, I listened to my teammates' experience and know-how, which helped me a lot in winning.
Q. Your defense was really great.
In the broadcast interview, (Won) Chang-yeon said that he wasn't helpful, but I actually learned a lot. And (Byun) Woo-jin and (Cha) Hyun-woo also helped me a lot, so I think my defense has improved a lot.
Q. If there was a player who played the biggest role in this tournament?
Icon Moments Henry had good performance, heading, speed, and feel, everything was good. I think it's close to perfect except for the slightly long dribbling.
Q. You will be participating in EACC with this tournament victory.
I have some EACC experience, but my teammates have a lot of experience. I hope they practice a lot in international competitions and help me win (laughs).
Q. Finally, what would you like to say?
There are fans who have been supporting me since the Korean national team selection after joining Elite. But the results weren't good at the time, so I think the fans were very disappointed. I wanted to repay the fans after that, and I'm happy that good results came out, and I will show better performance in EACC.
