Global esports organization Gen.G Esports (hereinafter referred to as Gen.G) announced on the 19th that it has partnered with Manchester City FC (hereinafter referred to as Man City), a football club representing the English Premier League (EPL). This collaboration is highly anticipated as it brings together Man City, who recently reached the top of Europe and achieved a treble, and Gen.G, who won the LoL Champions Korea (LCK) twice in a row and showed the dignity of the defending champion.
Gen.G has been operating top-tier teams in popular esports games such as League of Legends, VALORANT, and Overwatch since 2017. In addition to winning a total of 8 different league championships, it has solidified its position as a global esports team by winning the League of Legends World Championship twice. In addition, it is leading the expansion of the esports base by operating the Gen.G Global Academy (GGA) to foster next-generation esports talent.
Man City, which has secured the top spot in the EPL, currently operates the EA SPORTS FIFA team with 'Shellzz', the 2020-21 ePremier League champion, and the Fortnite team with 'Threats', the winner of the 2023 DreamHack San Diego, and has been making remarkable growth in the esports industry.
Gen.G and Man City, who met at the top, plan to solidify their club's position in Asia through this partnership. For example, during Man City's pre-season tour of Seoul in July, they plan to provide esports and football fans with a special experience through various collaborative activities such as holding unique fan participation events and creating new content with the team's world-class players. In addition, the two clubs will jointly plan branded products and introduce new limited-edition goods for fans.
Gavin Johnson, Media Director of City Football Group, said, “The collaboration with Gen.G is an important result that expands the club’s esports activities and strengthens the status of the Man City club in Korea and Asia.” He added, “We hope to create special synergy and provide an enjoyable experience for esports and football fans around the world through collaboration with Gen.G, which is leading the esports industry.”
Arnold Hur, CEO of Gen.G Esports, said, “We are pleased to announce the official collaboration with Man City, who have risen to the throne of football, as ‘GEN CITY’.” He added, “Gen.G and Gen.G Global Academy (GGA) are both looking forward to this partnership, and we hope that the meeting of the two teams representing each league will enhance the status of the champion and expand the industry’s influence through various collaborative activities.”
The latest information on Gen.G and Manchester City can be found on the official website, and news can also be received on each club's official Twitter.
