Hypergryph, the developer of 'Arknights', registered the trademark for their upcoming title 'Ex Astris' in Korea on the 4th, confirming its domestic release.
'Ex Astris' is an RPG that was revealed through Bilibili and YouTube on September 15, 2019. Unlike Arknights, it features full 3D cartoon rendering graphics and turn-based combat. It is being developed by 'Nous Wave Studio', an in-house studio established separately from the Arknights development team, and tells the story of investigators exploring an unknown planet.
The planet, which serves as the setting, has independently built a highly developed civilization despite the harsh environmental conditions of being divided into only two time zones: polar day and polar night. The investigator, who lands on the planet with only traces of this civilization remaining, cooperates with an expedition from another planet to explore various parts of the planet, encountering secrets hidden within the planet and enemies lurking in the ruins.
According to previously released gameplay footage, the combat adopts a turn-based system, but instead of exchanging attacks and defenses each turn, the turn is maintained until all of the player's turn's cost is used up, and the turn is passed to the opponent when the cost is exhausted. In addition, attempts have been made to incorporate reaction elements, such as allowing players to counter or defend in real-time according to the timing of the enemy's attack.
In addition, by arranging and combining skills, you can launch combos after launching enemies into the air, or shoot down enemies in the air, and the skills that can be used also vary depending on the state of the battlefield. Since the state of the battlefield can be changed once per turn, it is necessary to change the state of the battlefield in consideration of the types and combinations of usable skills to maximize the effect.
Prior to registering the trademark, Hypergryph has been preparing for the Korean release since March by opening an official Korean website and official YouTube and SNS accounts. In addition, through the official website, it was revealed that 'Ex Astris' will use a B2P (Buy to Play) model, not a free-to-play model. B2P refers to a lump-sum or subscription-based format, which refers to the method of purchasing and playing the game. At TGS2021, Hypergryph conducted an interview with Gamebiz, stating in more detail that it is a paid package game rather than a free download with item purchases. They also added that Hypergryph will directly service all regions except Japan, not Yostar.
The release date of Ex Astris is undecided, and more information can be found on the official website.
