'Little' Kim Jung-gyun, Completed KeSPA Certified Coaching Course

The Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA) announced on Tuesday the 20th that it completed the Class A e-sports coaching qualification training from Thursday, June 8th to Friday, June 9th.

The e-sports coaching qualification system is KeSPA's accredited private qualification system that certifies and standardizes the expertise and capabilities of e-sports coaches. It also aims to promote coaching and education in professional and amateur e-sports by training coaches with specialized education. The qualification system consists of three levels: Class A is for national team coaches or top-tier league e-sports coaches, Class B is for e-sports academy coaches and professional league coaching staff, and Class C is for amateur coaches and amateur e-sports educators in charge of fostering amateur players and after-school sports.

The Class A e-sports coaching qualification training, held from June 8th (Thursday) to 9th (Friday), was a training course hosted and organized by KeSPA, and is the first qualification training conducted since the introduction of the e-sports coaching private qualification system. The two-day training was attended by national team coaches for the Hangzhou Asian Games e-sports events: Kang Sung-hoon (Street Fighter V), Kim Jeong-gyun (League of Legends), Shin Bo-seok (FIFA Online 4), and Yoon Sang-hoon (PUBG Mobile).

The training was held at the Korea e-Sports Association's e-sports training center (Mapo-gu, Seoul), and the instructors included Kim Hak-beom, the coach who won a gold medal in football at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, Professor Kim Hong-sik of Korea National Sport University, Dr. Ahn Hyo-yeon of Seoul National University, and Dr. Cho Jin-kyung of the Korea Institute of Sport Science. The training consisted of lectures on e-sports-related physical conditioning, essential competencies for national team coaches, practical training, and written exams.

The Asian Games e-sports national team coaches who obtained certifications through the coaching qualification training shared their thoughts as follows. Coach Kang Sung-hoon said, "It was a great opportunity to develop further as a coach." Coach Kim Jeong-gyun said, "I am always learning. I was glad to learn more through this training." Coach Shin Bo-seok said, "I am gaining many helpful elements for my coaching career," and Coach Yoon Sang-hoon said, "I was able to redefine and learn about the role of a coach and sports elements."

In addition, KeSPA plans to conduct Class A and B coaching qualification training for existing coaches in addition to the Asian Games coaches. It also plans to conduct Class C coach training for the general public within this year.
