The popular animation SPY×FAMILY tells the story of members with secrets forming a family. The happenings and warm family love in the story have created many fans in Korea. Thanks to this success, the second season of the animation is currently airing, and the theatrical version, SPY×FAMILY: CODE White, is also about to be released.

As popular as the animation is, the voice actors in charge of the main character, the Forger family, are also very popular. Voice actress Saori Hayami, who plays Yor Forger, and Kenichiro Matsuda, who is in charge of narration and Bond Forger, visited Anime X Game Festival 2023 (AGF 2023), which was held at Ilsan Kintex for two days on December 2-3.

Acting skills UP when sick? Q&A with voice actors

The first part was the voice actors' Q&A. When the three voice actors were asked about how they came to be involved with SPY×FAMILY, they gave the following answers.

Hayami Voice Actor:I got the role through an audition. I recorded my voice acting Yor through the agency and sent it in, and I passed.

Kim Haru Voice Actor:I also got in through an audition. I got a call from the PD during a break after finishing my teaching practice at school, and I heard the news that I was asked to play the role of Yor. I was very happy, but since I was in school, I rejoiced in a small voice, saying, "Yahoo! Thank you! Please take care of me!"

Matsuda Voice Actor:I heard from the office, "Mr. Matsuda, you have been cast as the narrator for SPY×FAMILY." It was a very popular work since the manga was serialized, so when I heard the news, I reacted by saying, "Am I allowed to do this?" I first learned that I would also be playing the role of Bond when I was filming the first trailer. It's not a role I got through an audition.

Hayami voice actor was surprised by the casting story she heard for the first time, saying, "It wasn't through an audition?" to Matsuda voice actor's answer that the role was decided from the beginning.

When asked if she could tell us an interesting episode during recording, Hayami voice actor answered "Yes!" in Korean and revealed a secret hidden in the first episode of the second season.

Hayami Voice Actor:There's a scene where Yor gets shot in the butt and is in pain, and when I was recording, I had a slight injury to my left leg. So my leg often hurt, and I understood Yor's feelings to some extent. I had to move in front of the microphone, but I tried not to let them see that my leg hurt every time, so I walked like this (in an awkward posture).

But Tanezaki (Anya Forger's role) saw me in pain and asked, "Did you get shot in the butt?" (laughs)

Kim Haru voice actor and Matsuda voice actor then shared their experiences.

Kim Haru Voice Actor:When I was recording, I had a cold, so my voice wasn't in good condition. I had to play a scene where Yor was a little drunk, and I asked if it was okay to be in this condition, and they told me to try it first. When I actually did it, it sounded like I was really drunk, so I got a good review.

Matsuda Voice Actor:The recording proceeds in the form of a test and then the actual recording, but when I was testing, I kept hearing someone laughing behind me. (In an aggrieved voice) I'm acting seriously here, but they keep laughing. I'm just seriously barking.

When asked about the similarities between each of them and the characters they play, Hayami voice actor said, "I like to make creative dishes (like Yor), but they don't come out very delicious... I like making them, but they don't taste good." When she said "It's difficult" in Korean, the audience burst into applause and cheers.

When asked the same question, Kim Haru voice actor said that she thought her black hair before dyeing was similar to Yor, and Matsuda voice actor said that he responded to the request to act like an uncle in the acting feedback by saying, "I'm an uncle, so there's no problem," and cited uncle as a common point with Bond.

Q. This AGF 2023 is the first time for all three of you to participate, how does Hayami voice actor feel about meeting Korean fans in person?

Hayami Voice Actor:I'm finally able to meet you in a space where I can breathe the same air as you... (in Korean) I'm happy!

I only participated in AGF 2022 last year with a video message, but I heard a lot of stories from Kensho Ono (Yuri Briar's role) who came to Korea on stage. He said that the Korean fans welcomed him warmly and gave him a lot of enthusiastic support, so I already knew that you were sending a lot of support.

Q. Last year, Seungwoo Min, who played Lloyd, and Siyoon Park, who played Anya, participated as Korean voice actors, but this year, Haru Kim participated as the Korean representative. How do you feel?

Kim Haru Voice Actor:I was so nervous that I couldn't sleep until yesterday. I'm still shaking because there are so many people here, but I'm glad I'm wearing a long skirt. I hope I have another chance to participate, and next time, I hope that the Forger family from Korea and Japan can all get together and have many stories to tell.

Q. How does Matsuda voice actor feel about meeting Korean fans in person?

Matsuda Voice Actor:I'm very nervous because so many people have gathered here. My heart is full of gratitude for loving SPY×FAMILY. (in Korean) Thank you!

Golden Hand vs Sniper! Voice actors' keyword talk

The following corner was a time for the voice actors to draw and talk about what they wanted to do if they traveled in Korea with the keyword "travel". And the first picture revealed by Hayami voice actor was shocking in many ways. Matsuda voice actor said, "Normally, Eguchi (Lloyd Forger's role) would have tackled it."

Hayami Voice Actor:This is a picture of the Forger family wanting to eat Korean food together. (Pointing from the left) This is charcoal grilled meat, and this is steamed eggs, which is the dish I wanted to eat the most. I like spicy food, but I really like steamed eggs, so I ate it yesterday.

Matsuda Voice Actor:Eh, amazing... Did we eat something like this? I think we ate the same thing...

Hayami Voice Actor:We ate together!

Matsuda Voice Actor:Did it look like this?

Hayami Voice Actor:I drew Bond here too!

Matsuda Voice Actor:It was Bond?!

Hayami Voice Actor:Yes, I prepared Bond's meal diligently. And everyone is eating soy sauce marinated crab together.

Everyone shouted "Yes!" to the host's words that the soy sauce marinated crab (?) on the right was so cute. Kim Haru voice actor's picture was also revealed behind Matsuda voice actor's words that he couldn't understand, saying, "Aren't you too kind?"

Kim Haru Voice Actor:I was supposed to draw what I wanted to do in Japan, but I misunderstood and drew what I wanted to eat in Korea.

Hayami Voice Actor:Wow! It's the same!

Matsuda Voice Actor:No, it's not the same. (Firmly)

Kim Haru Voice Actor:This is kalguksu, chili pepper, kimchi, and jeon.

What kind of picture did Matsuda voice actor, who kept tackling Hayami voice actor's picture, draw? Matsuda Voice Actor:I went to the shooting range. I shot about 120 shots and it was the best.

Hayami Voice Actor:I went with him too, and it was my first time, but I got 99 out of 100. Is it a sniper after all?
