Orianna has the highest pick rate in Round 1! Senna and Smolder's influence is rising

▲ 2024 LCK Spring Round 1 Ban/Pick Rate Statistics (January 17th - February 23rd, Game 1)

The 2024 LCK Spring Split regular season is already more than halfway over. This split reflects the Summoner's Rift changes of Season 14, so there's bound to be a lot of interest in how LoL pro teams utilize champions. With Round 1 now complete, let's look back at the bans and picks so far and examine the changes and trends in the first half of the Spring Split.

First, the champion with the highest ban/pick rate in Round 1 is surprisingly Orianna. Orianna is currently struggling with a low win rate in solo queue, but in LCK Round 1, she recorded a ban/pick rate of 86.4% (58 bans, 31 picks) and a win rate of 61.3% (19 wins, 12 losses), showing the gap between solo queue and competitive play.

The preference for Orianna in tournaments has been continuing since the previous Worlds. Originally, Orianna hardly appeared in the 2023 LCK, but after receiving buff patches, she was actively used in the 2023 Worlds, recording a 94.9% ban/pick rate, and even now, with the new year, she is being chosen as a solid, high-value pick.

As for bot lane carries, Lucian recorded the highest ban/pick rate (48 bans, 39 picks, 84.5%). In this season where carry ADCs often appear, Lucian's position seems to have risen due to his high base stats and the potential for late-game damage. He was also a frequently used champion when the double-support strategy was effective in the early season.

Senna also gained attention as the support items were revamped. From the double-support build in the early season to the single-support Senna with Nautilus, Tahm Kench, etc., even after the double-support build was nerfed. In terms of win rate, she recorded a higher win rate of 65.6% (21 wins, 11 losses) than Lucian (19 wins, 20 losses, 48.7%). As this trend continues, she is recently being evaluated as the most influential pick.

Meanwhile, Smolder, who joined the LCK at the end of Round 1, appeared from the first day his ban was lifted, signaling the emergence of a new star. Smolder is a scaling champion who becomes stronger in the late game due to his skill structure. However, as builds that can withstand the weak early game are being researched, he is recording decent results in solo queue, and his debut in the LCK was possible.

Smolder's record in Round 1 is 2 wins and 2 losses, a 50% win rate. As of February 27th, he is also recording a 50% win rate with 5 wins and 6 losses, 45.5%. It is still difficult to make a clear evaluation as there are not many games yet, but his late-game power after stacking passive stacks seems sufficient to take on the carry role.

Contrary to the expectations of some users who expected aggressive junglers to emerge with the changes to the Rift and the addition of Voidgrubs, stable tank junglers also appeared frequently. Sejuani and Maokai represent the tank junglers of Round 1. They contributed to the team's victory with decent win rates of 53.3% and 55.6%, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the mid lane, Azir, who succeeded in improving his solo queue performance, ranked 4th overall with a ban/pick rate of 77.7% (23 bans, 57 picks). However, unlike solo queue, where he has risen to a 50% win rate, he showed a disappointing performance in LCK Round 1 with a win rate of 38.6% (22 wins, 35 losses). Among them, Chovy (5 wins, 1 loss), Bdd (3 wins, 1 loss), ShowMaker (3 wins, 1 loss), and Zeka (3 wins, 1 loss) recorded good win rates with Azir.
