Kog'Maw, a glimmer of hope for buffs? Could he become a meta champion?
Kog'Maw's pick rate has significantly increased in recent ranked games. Kog'Maw, who previously had a pick rate of around 0.5%, has now recorded a three-fold increase to 1.6%. The win rate is around 51%, which isn't bad, but not enough game data has been accumulated since the patch changes.
The recent 14.5 patch changes are the reason for this surge in Kog'Maw's pick rate. In this patch, several of Kog'Maw's skills were buffed, except for his W skill. The passive self-destruct attack has increased additional movement speed, and Caustic Spittle (Q) is faster by using basic attack frames instead of 0.25 cast time.
Void Ooze (E), which had a somewhat weak presence, has increased its slow rate, and the ultimate has also increased its additional attack power coefficient, strengthening both ease of use and attack performance.
Let's take a look at Kog'Maw's current build. First, as the slow rate of the E skill has been buffed, a small number of players are testing a build that learns skills in the order of W-E-Q instead of W-Q-E up to level 3. As for the core rune, Lethal Tempo is the most popular as it matches well with attack speed and range increase, and Preparation-Overgrowth was preferred as a secondary rune to supplement mid-to-late game defense.
Kog'Maw, who has fast attack speed and health-based damage as strengths, mainly uses on-hit based items instead of general critical strike items. Therefore, Blade of the Ruined King - Guinsoo's Rageblade are used as core items, and then Runaan's Hurricane or Wit's End, and the relatively recently added Terminus are included in the purchase list.
Kog'Maw's usage is increasing with the recent buffs. Will Kog'Maw be able to emerge as a new meta champion?
