FearX defeated OK Savings Bank Brion in the last match of Round 2 of the '2024 LoL Champions Korea (LCK)' Spring Split regular season held at LoL Park in Jongno on the 24th, marking a successful end. FearX, who won the first set with a dominant performance with Senna-Nautilus, won the second set, where OK Savings Bank Brion's resistance was quite strong, completing the set score 2:0.
The following is the full interview with coach Yoo Sang-wook and 'Closer' Lee Joo-hyun.
Q. What are your thoughts on winning the last game of the season?
Coach Yoo Sang-wook: I'm happy to end the last game of the Spring Split with a win, but when I think about the Summer Split, I'm disappointed that many of the mistakes that came out haven't been fixed. Still, I'm happy to win.
'Closer': We should have won cleanly when we had the early advantage, but it seems like we keep making mistakes. It's a shame that we were eliminated from the playoffs, but we need to keep practicing hard during the off-season and talk well with our teammates. Still, I'm glad we won.
Q. You suffered a big loss at Baron in the second set. I'd like to hear about the situation at the time.
'Closer': We cleared all the remaining vision, and I thought they didn't notice us hitting Baron. But even considering that, we hadn't even pushed the top tier 1, so we should have just taken our time. In that situation, we were talking to each other that Baron's damage was fast and the opponents had all gone home, so we hit it instantly. I think we all made a misjudgment. It's a shame we weren't thorough.
Q. How did the coaching staff see the situation at the time?
Coach Yoo Sang-wook: When I saw it, I thought the players made a basis for hitting it themselves. I don't think it was a big problem because they understood each other's basis and hit it together. Rather, when I looked at the process before Baron, I thought the tempo couldn't be maintained because of the continuous positional mistakes. That needs to be fixed quickly. I think that even a small movement can prevent you from winning when you have the advantage. I think a lot of that came out today, so I'm disappointed.
Q. Looking back on the entire Spring Split, what has improved and what still needs to be improved?
Coach Yoo Sang-wook: I think we generally do well in the laning phase. When we pick a composition, we can confidently do it according to the composition. But, when the laning phase ends and we go into the macro game, it would be nice if the five players could play organically. I think that's what we need to do to win in the competition with the top teams. If we make up for those things a lot during the off-season, we can do better in the Summer Split. Also, we have improved a lot from Round 1 to Round 2. We just need to fill in the details.
'Closer': In Spring Round 1, it didn't feel like we won even when we won. We were doing things separately as a team, and we showed a lot of mismatched aspects, but as we entered Round 2, I felt that we had grown as a team, although there are still many mistakes. I think we can beat strong teams if we play team games well. It's our strength that we're constantly improving, so I hope we can continue to improve and go to a high place in the Summer Split.
Q. In the case of 'Clear', he played as a full-time starter for the first time, and he was definitely improving towards the end. I'm curious about the coach's thoughts.
Coach Yoo Sang-wook: 'Clear' is playing as a full-time starter for the first time, and I think he's doing very well compared to his experience. The part that needs a little more effort is to equip himself with confidence in all compositions. He's a player who can do it if he's confident, so I think he'll become a good player if he fills himself with confidence and works hard.
Q. What is your goal for the Summer Split?
Coach Yoo Sang-wook: We finished in 7th place last summer and this spring, which is a shame. Our goal for this summer is to work hard and advance to the playoffs, and I think the possibility is very high. We found a lot of shortcomings and saw the growth. I think we can achieve our goal if we work hard.
'Closer': My goal is to advance to Worlds while I'm on this team. I want to go to the playoffs in the summer and go to Worlds if possible. I want to be recognized as a better mid laner by working much harder than in the spring.
Q. Finally, a word to the fans.
Coach Yoo Sang-wook: I'm sorry to the fans who supported us because we were unfortunately eliminated from the playoffs this spring. We will work hard in the summer to advance to the playoffs or higher, and even to Worlds. Thank you for your support until the end.
'Closer': I'm sorry that I couldn't communicate with the fans much during the spring. Also, I'm so sorry that I couldn't show my face to the fans because my performance wasn't very good. Nevertheless, I'm so grateful to the fans who always support me. I hope we can all be happy in the summer by showing a better and more confident side.
