Over 5,000 collectibles, China's first game museum to open at the end of July

China's first game museum will begin pilot operation at the end of July. The China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association introduced the China Audio-Video and Digital Publishing Association Game Museum (中国音数协游戏博物馆) as China's first museum with game expertise.

The museum is located in Caohejing Development Zone (漕河泾开发区) in Xuhui District, Shanghai. It is an area where major game companies in China are concentrated, similar to the establishment of a game museum in Pangyo in Korea. The 1,000㎡ permanent exhibition hall installed in the 2,000㎡ museum will have 4 themed exhibition halls and display more than 1,000 major exhibits.

According to the Korea Creative Content Agency report, the exhibition hall is divided into △Early video games △Console games △Computer game history △Chinese games. The early video game hall will display major game devices from the 1970s and 1980s. The history hall offers a glimpse into the game development process and the development trend of the game industry. In the Chinese game hall, you can see various collections such as (China's) first console game console and software.

In addition to the exhibits displayed in the permanent exhibition hall, the museum also has a collection of over 5,000 game-related items, including generational console game consoles, physical game packs, game magazines, game music CDs and records, art albums, posters, and goods.

In a space prepared for science and technology education related to games, not only will the fully assembled version of the world's first home console game console 'Magnavox Odyssey' be displayed, but also a disassembled version showing the structure such as the internal circuit board.

Zhang Yijun (张毅君), Vice Chairman of CGIGC (China Game Industry Research Institute) and Chairman of the Game Practice Committee, said, "The establishment of the museum is an important signal that the industry has matured," and introduced, "The exhibits show the history of industrial development and cultural value." Tang Jiajun (唐贾军), Deputy Secretary-General of CGIGC, said, "The museum will connect China and the world, developers and users," and "It will contribute to the healthy development of the game industry."

Meanwhile, the Korean government is also considering building a game museum. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to build a Larchiveum, which contains the meanings of a library, archive, and museum, to comprehensively compile the history of games as the home of online games and e-sports.
