Review of the Keychron K8 PRO SE mechanical wireless keyboard, full of retro vibes

Hello, this is a picture writer who reviews products.
The product I used this time is
Keychron K8 PRO SE Retro Keyboard.
Among Keychron's various products, there is a keyboard that captures classic sensibility, practicality, and price.
That is 'K8 PRO SE Retro Mechanical Wireless Keyboard'
Looking at the dictionary definition of Retro, it explains it as 'retroism' or 'retro style,' a trend of longing for past memories and trying to return to that era. I felt that the K8 PRO SE Retro well reflects the trend connecting the past and present.

Just as trends come and go, retro style will continue in the past, present, and future. Therefore, I think the K8 PRO SE I used this time is a keyboard that you can use for a long time without getting tired of it. In addition, the SE model is NON-RGB (cost-effective) and does not have RGB backlights, but rather, that is an attractive feature that evokes nostalgia for the past. It's a bonus that you can buy it at a reasonable price :)

It's a package design that you can tell is a Keychron product at a glance. It has an identity. When you open the box, you will find the keyboard body and components neatly fixed, and a manual.

Looking at the main specifications, it seems to have all the essential functions as a keyboard. It is not a product specialized for gaming such as RGB and 2.4GHz wireless, but the main purpose of the K8 PRO SE is to be an item that can decorate your deskteriors beautifully in the office or studio. Of course, it also deserves a passing grade in terms of functionality that provides build quality and convenience.
One of the components is a driver, which appears to be for use with bolt-type stabilizers.

It captures the sensibility of the 80s in a retro style. In addition, it gave a point with a red keycap. 80s sensibility and 80% layout... interesting :^D

The semi-Viki type has a keyboard border that rises slightly upward, giving it a standard (Non-Viki) standard feel. The keycaps are also high and round, so the overall design is quite stylish.

Also, the housing and keycaps are slightly higher than general keyboards. So, you can experience a better typing feel when using a palm rest.

You can adjust the stand to 3 levels of height: 3.5 / 7 / 10.5º.

On the side of the keyboard (left) are a USB-C port for charging, a toggle switch for Win - Android / Mac - iOS switching, and a toggle switch for setting the BT / OFF / Cable connection method. It properly supports Apple Macs as well as Windows, so it's good to use as a dedicated keyboard.

I think the retro color that calms the mind along with black and white colors is less divisive. The advantage is that it can be used easily in various desk setups.

When you connect the cable for charging and wired connection, you can check the charging status with the LED indicator above the arrow keys. The battery is 4000mA and the charging time is about 3 hours. It can be used for up to 290 hours when fully charged, so you can use it for about 12 days (?). The SE model is NON-RGB, so I think the efficiency is a little better.
You can check with the blue LED when pairing Bluetooth and switching devices.
* Blinking at regular intervals: Bluetooth pairing
* Blinking with a pattern: Multi-pairing (fn + number key 1/2/3)

* Unlimited simultaneous input shortcut: fn + N
The feature of 'Keychron Launcher' is that you can use it right away on any PC as long as you are connected to the Internet without installing separate software. I don't know if there has been such a method before, but I think it's really convenient and a good idea. In particular, if you are annoyed or uncomfortable with repeatedly installing and uninstalling separate software on your PC every time you purchase or change products such as mice, keyboards, and headsets, the Keychron Launcher can be the best advantage.

Connect to the Keychron Launcher in the internet window, press Connect Device,

First, looking at the menus on the left,
■ Key Mapping
You can set the key you want to a specific key.
■ Macro
You can create macros such as specific shortcuts or specific sentences to your liking.
■ Firmware Update
This is a menu where you can update the keyboard firmware.
■ Keyboard Test
After mapping, you can test whether it has been applied properly.
■ Bug Report
This is a menu where you can report errors.
And at the bottom, there is a settings menu where you can set the language.
* If it is a model that supports RGB backlights, the 'LED lighting effect' menu is activated. You can adjust the lighting effect, brightness, and color of your keyboard.
* The settings set through the Keychron Launcher are stored in the keyboard's onboard memory, so you can use the same settings without installing a program in any environment and place.
In this way, the Keychron Launcher is easy and convenient to use, and above all, I felt that it understands what the user wants. I think other brands should support this method as well.

This is my first time experiencing Keychron's custom keycaps and K PRO switches. The keycaps have good overall finishing, including double-shot Korean/English legends, character size, and position. It is made of PBT material, so it is resistant to oil and shine. I was able to type more familiar than I thought with the OSA profile (a combination of the height of the OEM profile and the shape of the SA profile).

Switch is KPRO Silent Red (45±10gf)
Keychron K8 PRO SE supports hot-swapping. (Some products do not support it depending on the SE product option) It is easy to repair the switch, and the degree of freedom of customization is high because it can be replaced with MX style 3-pin and 5-pin switches (Gateron, Cherry, Kailh, etc.).
The stabilizer is bolt-type, making it easy to maintain, and there is little deviation in play and noise. Maintenance is also easy. (Bolt-type stabilizers are only installed on hot-swap supported models)
If you are going to use it, it is better to purchase a model that supports hot-swapping.
* Please note that the sound is recorded louder than it actually sounds.
* Typing feel varies depending on the user's preference. Please refer to it as a personal opinion.
The quiet and neat typing feel is always satisfactory as it is a silent switch. It is thought that silent switches are used in places with many people (offices, studios, etc.), but the light and less fatiguing characteristics of the silent red switch are often used for home or gaming purposes. It's a personal feeling, but usually, the silent red switch felt slightly more chewy and heavy when pressed than the general red switch, but the K PRO silent red switch is chewy, but it definitely feels light. So, it had a slightly different feel than other companies' silent red switches.
In addition, thanks to the bolt-type stabilizer, there is almost no noise. It really caught unnecessary noise so neatly that I was impressed.
In addition, the lower frame - thick silicone pad (secondary sound absorption) - PCB - primary sound absorbing material - plate are tightly packed in order. I thought it suppressed the echo well. When you lift or touch the housing with the secondary sound absorbing material, you can feel that the inside is solid and heavy.

Basically, the K PRO switch is pre-lubricated, so it suppresses noise well. If you like the linear tendency of quiet and unhindered light typing, the K PRO silent red switch will be a very good choice.

Looking at the advantages and features of the Keychron K8 PRO SE Retro Mechanical Wireless Keyboard that I experienced directly,
■ Keychron's quality and performance that has been verified
■ Retro colors and designs that don't go out of style
■ Practicality emphasized by including only the necessary functions in K8 PRO + cost-effectiveness
■ Keychron Launcher without separate installation Good!
■ Excellent stabilizer and switch lubrication status
■ No echo, light and chewy typing feel
There was really nothing uncomfortable or disappointing while using it. The fact that it is NON-RGB and does not support 2.4GHz wireless is because there are many options in Keychron products, so I think those who purchase the K8 PRO SE model in the first place take these points into consideration and choose it.

Thank you for watching the review of the Keychron K8 PRO SE Retro Mechanical Wireless Keyboard so far.
