Can it establish itself as a cost-effective subculture keyboard? VK-99 Keyboard

I don't know if you've heard of a brand called Valkyrie. Not the Valkyrie from the Marvel Universe or Norse mythology, but a PC component brand. Valkyrie is a Chinese company that has made a name for itself among PC enthusiasts with its subculture sensibility and cost-effective liquid coolers, featuring flashy RGB and lower prices than similar products.

What's unique is that they promote their products with cute girl characters made by their subsidiary, or release products featuring these characters, embracing a subculture feel. Of course, they also have products with general designs, but these cute girl concept products were quite interesting and stuck in my mind.

But this Valkyrie has also jumped into the keyboard business since the beginning of this year. Of course, they brought the characteristics they had in coolers as they are. The regular discount price is just over 100,000 won, but it was recently sold for a little less than 70,000 won based on hot deal prices.

Wait a minute, I remember that the Dokgomi keyboard, which is famous for its cost-effectiveness these days, costs 30,000 to 40,000 won. I remember that a 98-key keyboard with a knob and LCD display costs close to 60,000 won, but if you add just 10,000 won more, you can buy a keyboard with fancy keycaps and RGB! I shouted 'This is a steal!' and quickly pressed the purchase button. With Dokgomi establishing itself as a cost-effective keyboard, I took a closer look to see if the Valkyrie keyboard could join the craze.

Before tasting the real thing, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the box. Wouldn't anyone burst out laughing when they see this box? Valkyrie must have thought it was too boring to put their sensibility only in the product, so they clearly put that sensibility in the packaging box as well. I couldn't see the keyboard product in the box, but instead, I could appreciate the Valkyrie character illustration called 'Loki'.

There are several series of VK-99, and the switch, keycap design, and overall color combination of the keyboard vary depending on the character name attached to the end. The product I'm going to introduce this time is the LOKI character product, which is the only keyboard with a black background. The other series have a white background, so I chose this product.

박스에도 철철 넘치는 매력
VK-99 Loki

▲ The basic components are quite substantial. There are spare switches, a keycap remover, a cleaning brush, and a C-type cable.

▲ The actual keyboard looks like this. It has a black background with a red combination and blue as a point.

▲ The buttons are printed with icons and English that match the character concept.

▲ If you look closely at the number side, the special characters are marked.

▲ Above that, major information such as Caps / Number Lock is displayed with white LEDs.

▲ On the right are the tenkey, knob, and LCD display.

▲ Loki is located on the space bar.

▲ If you look closely, Loki is drawn on the keycap. I like the detail that the red keycaps on the border are slightly lighter in color.

▲ The red circuit printed on the keyboard has a different texture, as if it has been coated separately. Does it feel like a sticker?

▲ I wondered why it was so heavy even though it was plastic, but the top is covered with a metal material plate. The thickness is also considerable.

▲ In the center are a switch that can be set, a C-type terminal, and a 2.4G dedicated dongle.

▲ The dongle has its own space, so you don't have to worry about losing it. The product I was using was a magnetic type, so I was worried, but this is much better.

▲ The true value of this keyboard is below. Loki's illustration is printed largely.

▲ You can adjust the height in a total of 3 levels.

▲ The keyboard itself weighs over 1,000g and is heavy, but there are 5 large rubber pads, so you don't have to worry about slipping.

▲ It feels like this when you actually use it.

▲ On the LCD, you can turn the knob to display the time or play pre-designated GIFs.

▲ In addition, you can set RGB, adjust the volume, etc. The supported languages are, of course, only Chinese and English.

▲ RGB is roughly like this.

▲ The white LED on the upper left also lights up well. It's more of a subtle feeling than a bright one.

▲ RGB is applied to the sides, illuminating both sides subtly.

아니 이거 진짜 괜찮은데?
The best cost-effective keyboard if you like the style

Compared to Dokgomi products, which have become popular as cost-effective products these days, there is a difference of about 10,000 won compared to products with the same specifications. A difference of 10,000 won can make the title of cost-effectiveness go back and forth, but considering the generous RGB and the keycaps and the back of the keyboard full of subculture sensibility, 10,000 won is enough to pay for the skin.

When it comes to keyboards, you can't miss the key feel. It feels like you have to press it a little harder than a general office keyboard, but it's not like you have to put a lot of force into your hand like a black switch. I really liked the sound, which was not a light clicking sound like a general gaming keyboard, but a heavy and clean sound similar to a ceramic keyboard, but a little louder. I don't think it would be easy to use in a quiet office.

Not only is it emotional, but the performance is also decent, so it's better than most gaming keyboards. Of course, it doesn't have high-end gaming features like rapid trigger, but it's more than enough for general work and gaming.

The only drawbacks of this keyboard are that it is not a full array and that the concept is too excessive, but if you don't care too much about these parts, it is considered a product that can compete with Dokgomi, and it will be a sniper for those who like this sensibility, but there are also models with a plain design for those who don't, so I recommend you consider it during hot deals.

▲ A model without illustrations was recently officially released in Korea, so if you feel burdened, I recommend this model.
