※ There are two branches in the quest for the Land of the Morning Light in Black Desert. It is recommended to try the branch not covered in the article yourself.
Original Story
[Definition] A tale about the beautiful woman Dohwa (桃花娘) and her son Bihyeong (鼻荊) during the reign of King Jinji of Silla.
[Content]> This tale belongs to the category of tales of intercourse with strange beings (異物交媾說話), specifically intercourse with the dead (死者交婚). It is transmitted through literature rather than oral tradition. The following story is recorded in 『Samgukyusa』 Volume 1, Dohwananyeo Bihyeongrangjo.
Before King Jinji, the 25th ruler of Silla, was expelled from the throne, he tried to violate Dohwa, a married woman, but released her when he could not break her chastity. In that same year, the king was expelled from the throne and died. Two years later, Dohwa's husband also died.
About ten days later, the dead king appeared and entered Dohwa's room, using the excuse that Dohwa had refused the king's request the day before (saying she would allow the king's request if she had no husband) and stayed for seven days, after which she gave birth to a boy.
He was named Bihyeong, and King Jinpyeong, hearing of his divine nature, brought him to the palace and raised him. At the age of 15, Bihyeong was given the position of Jipsa, and every evening he went out of the palace and gathered goblins to play with.
King Jinpyeong confirmed this fact and made the goblins perform construction work, building the Ghost Bridge (鬼橋) overnight, and also had a goblin named Gildal (吉達) help with state affairs. Bihyeong even built Gildal Gate and killed Gildal, who had transformed into a fox and ran away.
After that, the goblins were afraid and ran away at the mere mention of Bihyeong's name. And at that time, people wrote and posted writings about Bihyeong to ward off evil spirits.
Among the categories of tales of love with corpses (屍愛說話) attempted by Jang Deok-soon (張德順), the second refers to this type of Dohwananyeo Bihyeongrang tale. In other words, this tale refers to a story in which the spirit of a dead lover appears and lives or sleeps with a living person.
In 「Geumbanguljeon」, which is thought to be an aggregation of this tale, a husband named Samnang also dies, and his spirit visits his ex-wife Maksi after decades and frequently visits her, giving birth to a daughter, Bangul.
In the case of Dohwananyeo Bihyeongrang, the already dead king, even invisible beings, become the object of intercourse (交媾: having physical relations between men and women) as strange beings, and the second generation born from such intercourse with strange beings invariably appears as an extraordinary human being. And when describing the biography of a specific great figure (傑物), it is easy to find that they are born along this path, overcome turbulent twists and turns, and end their lives achieving great success.
There are many works that have been created by targeting protagonists born against the backdrop of such a series of tales of intercourse with strange beings, or by taking them as characters in the story. In addition, since these tales of love with corpses are also recorded in documents such as the Chinese 『Soushenji (搜神記)』 and 『Fayuanzhulin (法苑珠林)』, the relationship with this tale is noteworthy.

The Tale of Bihyeong in the Land of the Morning Light
It is said that a man was crying loudly in a tavern. A few days ago, the man came home from work and found only one shoe on the stepping stone. His wife was home alone. When he pricked up his ears, he heard voices leaking from inside the room, and the man was so surprised that he shouted, 'Who's there!' Something covered itself with a blanket and ran away. He asked his wife who that was, but his wife denied knowing anything, and after that, his wife started to get sick and disappeared.
Luju says that he is possessed by a plague god, and adds that the plague god was eliminated by the Samsin Grandmother, but is reappearing. However, when Wol-ah questions that the wife didn't die but disappeared, Luju hurriedly leaves, saying he is busy. Coincidentally, Mr. Toe also came to the Land of the Morning Light and said that he saw a person wearing colorful striped clothes and a bright red mask. He is a famous Bihyeongrang in this area, and he appeared in Seoul one day, and although he is not a doctor, when he dances, sick people get better. Dol-soe says that something is fishy and suggests investigating.
▲ Let's tell a story
▲ Huh? What is this...?
▲ Is it an affair?
▲ That's not a man, it's a plague god
▲ The Samsin Grandmother defeated him, but he appeared again...
▲ Luju-nim, that's not it?
▲ Luju runs away
▲ He said he saw a man wearing strange clothes
▲ That's Bihyeongrang!
▲ Heals illnesses by dancing?
▲ Suspicious, suspicious
When I went to Dongmakgol, the public sentiment was not good. Everyone praises Bihyeongrang and curses the king. Coincidentally, Bihyeongrang is healing a sick child by dancing. He says that he is treating people who are waiting to die because they have no money, and that he does not believe the rumors that he will become king. He only tells them to listen to the public sentiment. While Dol-soe and I were listening to more stories about Bihyeongrang from the surrounding villagers, Dol-soe caught the plague.
▲ Entering Dongmakgol
▲ Public sentiment is not good. They curse the king.
▲ Bihyeongrang as k... no, as king!
▲ Bihyeongrang actually heals by dancing
▲ I share stories about Bihyeongrang with the people around me, but everyone says he is a savior.
▲ But Dol-soe caught the plague.
▲ Dol-soe is reminded of his past PTSD
▲ Dol-soe still receives treatment from the doctor
▲ Should I interpret 'come slowly but quickly' as 'somewhere in the middle'?
When I returned to Seoul, the doctor at the Jesaengwon said that he could not cure the plague. Dol-soe doesn't know what to do, but a white-haired man speaks to him. If he is suffering from red boils, he can be cured if he can get some herbs. He brought the ingredients and was cured, and he learns that his identity is Bihyeongrang.
Dol-soe blames the Jesaengwon and suggests going to the Ministry of Rites, which manages the Jesaengwon. When he informs the Ministry of Rites that the plague has spread in Dongmakgol, they make fun of him, saying, 'What business does a shabby person have in this precious place?' They don't seem to care, saying that Dongmakgol is a place where people with the plague are deliberately gathered. Dol-soe leaves, saying that it will be difficult for Bihyeongrang to treat them alone, so let's get medicine for the people.
▲ I can't cure that
▲ Am I going to die now?
▲ The doctor's mutterings are bothering me
▲ A suspicious man knows the symptoms
▲ The man cured Dol-soe!
▲ It was very effective
▲ Since the Jesaengwon can't cure the disease, I went to the Ministry of Rites, which is the higher management body.
▲ Dongmakgol is indeed a village where the sick are gathered~
▲ Dol-soe suggests helping Bihyeongrang since there is no answer here
▲ I try to make medicine in advance through the doctor
▲ It's a familiar taste
▲ Well, Dol-soe's identity is...eup eup
▲ Dol-soe changes the subject
▲ Are the police officers arresting people?
▲ Why are they arresting people?
▲ I'm convinced when I see Geumryun burning the documents
▲ Let's follow Geumryun
When I chased the suspicious Geumryun, Geumryun and Bihyeongrang were in cahoots. Bihyeongrang is spreading the plague and treating it himself to use the public sentiment, and Jang Dae-seung, Geumryun is on his side, is trying to seize power by using the fallen public sentiment. He is trying to seize control of the court from the beginning of his reign. After seeing a mural of a dragon drawn in a nearby cave, I remember the line that Bihyeongrang is using the dragon, and I go to the Jwado Gang, who communicates with ghosts and uses magic.
The Jwado Gang member is Hong Gil-dong. When Dol-soe asks Gil-dong if he knows Bihyeongrang, he says that he is an orphan he brought in 8 years ago. He had the talent to use magic by learning over his shoulder, and he said that Bihyeongrang wanted to use magic to control the world. Gil-dong ignored him, saying that he should fulfill his duty as a Taoist, and Bihyeongrang left the Jwado Gang. After telling the story that Bihyeongrang had contacted the Dragon God, Gil-dong laughs, saying that he is amazing. Then he says to kill him.
He is drawing power by communicating with the plague god, and the Taoist of the Jwado Gang, who communicates with the gods, cannot be separated from the god until his body is broken, so killing him is the way to save the Land of the Morning Light. Dol-soe is a disciple, but he suggests defeating the plague demon through the Samsil Grandmother, but Gil-dong opposes, saying that the Samsin Sacred Tree has lost its power and the lives of the people are at stake.
▲ Are they in cahoots?
▲ Traveler, you're on our side, right?
▲ Bihyeong's manipulation of public sentiment is threatening
▲ Bihyeong is using the dragon
▲ Let's ask the Jwado Gang for help
▲ Gil-dong hyung, do you know Bihyeong?
▲ Of course, he was a talented child
▲ Gil-dong tells an old story
▲ Let's just kill him
▲ Dol-soe is surprised by the sudden development
▲ He's a harmful guy
▲ Gil-dong suggests getting rid of him cleanly
▲ Dol-soe stops him
▲ The Samsin Grandmother eliminated the plague demon
▲ Dol-soe suggests borrowing the Grandmother's power
▲ Gil-dong says to kill him
▲ A way to neutralize Bihyeong through the Grandmother
▲ A branching point to catch him quickly before that
I re-entered the cave to kill Bihyeongrang. I succeeded in calling Bihyeongrang and heard his plan. However, the Old Man of Jinajeo appears and makes him go berserk, saying that he is a failure because the puppet has a self. After subduing Bihyeongrang, I listen to his story. Why does a bad guy save people? Bihyeongrang says it's a momentary change of heart.
And before he dies, he hands over the mask he was wearing, saying that the plague will be resolved if he brings the mask to the sacred tree. The story ends with the mask hanging on the Samsin Sacred Tree.
▲ Gil-dong tells you how to lure Bihyeong
▲ Now we have to catch him
▲ I learn why Bihyeong is like that
▲ ???? Huh?
▲ The Old Man appeared
▲ The Old Man is ruthless
▲ I catch Bihyeongrang and ask him
▲ It was a change of heart...he said
▲ With these words, he dies
▲ The Tale of Bihyeong story ends here
