A new Gundam series connecting to Witch from Mercury, 'G-XAX' revealed

'Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury' was followed by a new Gundam TV animation revealed at the recent Gundam Conference.

The title of the new Gundam animation series is 'Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (hereinafter GQuuuuuuX)', co-produced by Studio Khara, an animation studio founded by Hideaki Anno of 'Evangelion', and Sunrise. Kazuya Tsurumaki of Studio Khara is the director, and Hideaki Anno himself participated in the screenplay.

Gundam GQuuuuuuX is set in the Universal Century 0085 of a parallel world, and tells the story of a high school girl 'Amate Yuzuriha' who lived a peaceful life in a space colony floating in space, meets a war refugee girl 'Nyaan' and gets caught up in the illegal mobile suit duel game 'Clan Battle'. Amate, who participates in the Clan Battle under the name 'Machu', pilots the GQuuuuuuX and spends her days in battle away from her daily life, and at this time, she meets the unidentified mobile suit 'Gundam' and its pilot, the boy 'Shuuji', who are being chased by both the space army and the police.

GQuuuuuuX is characterized by its unique design that reminds us of Evangelion rather than Gundam, an unfamiliar name with six u's in its spelling, and the use of a tomahawk-shaped weapon called Heat Hawk as its main weapon. At the time of the first announcement of GQuuuuuuX, an HG 1/144 Gunpla model image was also released.

The main story is the second work featuring a female protagonist following The Witch from Mercury, and it has been noted that it will be the first Gundam TV series to feature male and female characters as double protagonists while dealing with the Universal Century. Hideaki Anno, who participated in the screenplay, is well known as an avid fan of the Gundam series, so fans are paying attention to and expecting what new story will unfold through this series.

Prior to the TV series broadcast of GQuuuuuuX, the theatrical pre-release version 'Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-', which reconstructs some of the early story, will be released in Japanese theaters on January 17. The screening time is known to be 81 minutes. Domestic distribution will be handled by Waterhole Company, which was in charge of distributing 'Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom', and the exact release date has not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, on the 10th, the main trailer and theme song information for 'Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-' were released. The theme song for the theatrical pre-release version has been decided as 'Plazma', a new song by popular Japanese singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu.
