[Info] Crytek puts Crysis 4 development on hold, lays off 15% of staff
Crytek announces layoffs affecting 60 out of 400 employees.
Crytek stated via X that Hunt: Showdown 1896 is growing, but “cannot continue to sustain itself financially as it has in the past.” Crytek tried to cut costs and operating expenses by “pausing” the development of Crysis 4 at the end of 2024 and transferring employees to Hunt, but the layoffs became an “inevitable” situation, affecting 15% of the total workforce.
Below is the full text of the post by Crytek founder Avni Yerli.
"Like many of our peers, we have not been free of the complex and adverse market dynamics that have impacted the industry over the past several years.
It is with deep regret that I must share the news that we have to lay off approximately 15% of our workforce, around 400 employees, today. These layoffs will affect development teams and shared services.
We deeply appreciate the hard work of our talented team members, but this was not an easy decision. After pausing the development of the next Crysis game in Q3 2024, we have been working to transition developers to Hunt: Showdown 1896.
While Hunt: Showdown 1896 is still growing, Crytek cannot continue to sustain itself financially as it has in the past. Despite ongoing efforts to reduce costs and operating expenses, we have determined that layoffs are unavoidable to move forward. Crytek will provide severance packages and career support services to affected employees.
We firmly believe in the future of Crytek. We have a very strong game service with Hunt: Showdown 1896, and we will remain committed to game operations going forward. We will continue to expand and develop Hunt: Showdown 1896 with great content and advance our strategy for the CryEngine engine."
