[Info] PS5 Has Sold 75 Million Units to Date, With 129 Million Active Users
PlayStation 5 sold 9.5 million units between October and December 2024, marking its best quarter ever.
This brings total PS5 sales to 75 million units, and Sony's gaming business is up 37% compared to the same period last year.
Sony has now included PS5 Pro sales in its overall hardware figures, so it's impossible to isolate the success of the newly upgraded console, but Sony emphasizes that all PS5 sales are currently in line with the latest console's expected 18 million units by the end of March 2025, trailing the previous model PS4 by 1.5 million units, which sold 76.5 million units at the same point in its production cycle.
Active users across the service also increased by 5% year-over-year to 129 million, and overall sales of games and consoles also increased by 16%, marking a new milestone. 42% of PS5 sales were to new PlayStation Network users. Sony's major release during the quarter was Astro Bot, which sold 1.5 million copies.
Sony raised its profit forecast by 2% as it reported "significant growth" in the Games & Network Services segment during the quarter.
PS5 is ranked 13th on the list of best-selling consoles of all time and is poised to overtake the Nintendo 3DS next quarter.
