The black flame's weak points are its head and mouth.
Note the glowing octopus-like suckers on the attacking tentacles.
Attaching to its face and inducing a specific pattern makes hunting easier.
Black Flame (Nu Igridada) Strategy
▣ Black Flame Location
Unlike previous missions, the main quest to find the Black Flame doesn't provide an exact location. Even watching the video carefully won't give you any hints, so you have to find it yourself.
If you investigate the Black Flame's traces while wandering the map, a quest marker will finally appear, but you can just head to area 15 and encounter the boss without any problems. Area 15 can be reached by following the path from area 9 and dropping down.
Area 15 has lava on some of the floors, causing continuous damage. Riding a Secrete can prevent damage, but it's not a significant amount, so you can fight while stepping on it moderately. Still, it's annoying, so it's easier to quickly push the Black Flame to another area. Also, your health will continuously decrease in the hot area, so drink a Cool Drink or use the nearby Coolshell Bugs.
▣ Black Flame Weaknesses and Meat Quality
The Black Flame, nicknamed 'Octopus', takes damage well on its head and mouth, and fire is ineffective. When attacked and enraged, its body is engulfed in flames, but the flames go out and it becomes greatly weakened if you keep attacking. The description says that you can extinguish the flames by acquiring 'Water Moss' and throwing a slinger, but the rage doesn't dissipate even if you hit the slinger on its head or body, so you don't have to pay much attention to it.
▣ How to Fight the Black Flame
When the Black Flame is close to the player, it attacks with tentacles attached to various places. What to note here is that the suckers on the attacking tentacles always glow. If you think of this as the Black Flame's eyes, you can detect the attack telegraph more easily.
Since it attacks freely with tentacles no matter which direction you are in, it is better to stick to the face where it is easy to hit the head and mouth. In particular, the 'inflate and pounce' pattern, which will be described later, often appears in this state. Since it is a pattern with a very long after-delay, you can clear it more easily by continuing to induce the pattern.
Also, all tentacles can be cut off, so using a cutting weapon can make it easier to deal with. If you are hit by the Black Flame's flames and get a status ailment, rolling will reduce the duration, so keep that in mind.
▣ Black Flame Main Patterns
○ Wriggling Dash
- It approaches while wriggling, and then dashes while pushing off the ground with its tentacles on the second movement. It's a very obvious pattern, but you may be embarrassed if you don't know it. It's hard to avoid if you go backwards, so go to the side.
- It often attacks with tentacles after dashing, so if your attack speed is slow, it's good to see this before attacking.
○ Inflate and Pounce (★Key Pattern)
- A pattern often used when the player is attached to the face. It is very easy to avoid if you step back because the telegraph is large, and the after-delay is the longest of the patterns.
- It also uses a similar pattern of lifting its butt and crushing it when it is behind, but the after-delay is slightly shorter than when it is in front.
○ Tentacle Stab
- A pattern that requires special attention when in front, and it is a pattern that has a clear telegraph, so remember it. It's not as good as the above pattern, but it's a pattern with a long after-delay, so avoid it and attack.
○ Fireball Throw
- A pattern used only in the enraged state. Throws a fireball with a short tentacle. It's easy to get hit if you don't know it because the telegraph is short.
○ Fire Breath
- A pattern used only in the enraged state. It is best to avoid it to the side, but if conditions do not allow, you can run straight back to avoid it. It becomes defenseless, so avoid it and attack.
○ Flame Eruption
- A pattern used only in the enraged state. It twists its body and makes a bizarre sound. Ranged weapons don't have to worry about it, but melee weapon users should get out of the way in advance.
