Gather the Triple Extract! Monster Hunter Wilds Insect Glaive Guide

A weapon with the unique concept of fighting alongside hunting insects

The key is how well you maintain the 3-extract state and how well you utilize the Soaring Spinning Slash

The best weapon is an Artier weapon with blast or paralysis attribute, and the insect can be chosen according to your preference

The Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter Wilds is a unique weapon that leads the battle with 'Hunting Insect'. When attacking in focus mode, the Hunting Insect attacks together to collect extracts and strengthen the hunter. There are 4 types of extracts with different effects, and it is also possible to combine extracts of different colors. The extract collected varies depending on which part of the monster you attack, and the location of the extract varies from monster to monster.

You can also install Hunting Insect powder on the part designated by the hunter, and the effect of the powder varies depending on the type of Hunting Insect. There are a total of 4 powders: blast powder, poison powder, paralysis powder, and recovery powder.

It is also the only weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds that can perform aerial combat through leaps. However, it should be noted that the current high point of the Insect Glaive is the so-called 'ground glaive' that does not use aerial manipulation well.

The basic mechanism is difficult and there are many things to operate, so it can be said that it is a very difficult weapon for beginners to get into. However, if you like the unique mechanism, it is a weapon worth digging into.

■ Absorb 3 extracts and finish with Soaring Spinning Slash! Insect Glaive Operation

If you press and hold 'Marking Aim' (/) and bring the aiming point to it, you can see which extract can be collected from that part. While holding the aim,/You can send the insect through to collect the extract. If you send the extract collection while charging, you can acquire more than 2 extracts at once. The insect will automatically return after a while, but you can call it back immediately by 'Insect Recall' (/). If you attack in focus mode, the insect will automatically dig the extract from that part, but you will not know which extract is in that part.

If you have dug the extract, let's check the UI below the sharpness. You can see an insect-shaped icon with the numbers 1, 2, and 3 written on it. First, the insect-shaped icon indicates the type of extract that the current Hunting Insect has. The yellow gauge on the right is the insect's stamina. It is recovered when an extract is collected, and the stamina itself is very generous, so you don't have to pay much attention to it. When you recover the insect and acquire the extract, you can obtain the following effects depending on the color.

● Effects of each extract by color

Green:Recovery

Red(1):'Upward Strike' (/) can be charged by pressing and holding, and changed to 'Advancing Roundslash'

White(2):Increased movement speed, increased jump height

Orange(3):Flinch Free

Red+White:Attack UP

White+Orange:Defense UP

Red+White+Orange:Attack UP + Some skill changes

The key here is to collect all three extracts of 1, 2, and 3. In this state, skills such as Continuous Rising Slash and Upward Strike are enhanced and changed to Enhanced Continuous Rising Slash and Enhanced Advancing Roundslash, improving combat ability. The enhanced state when all three extracts are collected lasts for only about 90 seconds.

The basic DPS cycle is to collect 3 extracts and then use Enhanced Continuous Rising Slash 2 hits (-/-) followed by Enhanced Advancing Roundslash (Charging/ Charging). The point to note is the charging of Enhanced Advancing Roundslash. You can charge Enhanced Advancing Roundslash even while using Enhanced Continuous Rising Slash. Don't wait until the attack is over, charge at the same time as the attack.

The true value of the Insect Glaive is the 'Soaring Spinning Slash' (Focus Mode +/ Focus Mode +) that can be linked after Enhanced Advancing Roundslash. This skill immediately cancels the enhanced state, but rises up and immediately recovers the extracts corresponding to all parts attacked. There is a disadvantage that there may be many misses if the monster is small or in a groggy state, so use it at the appropriate timing. Soaring Spinning Slash inherits the charge stage of Advancing Roundslash, so it is best to use it in the 2nd charge state.

Another thing to keep in mind when using the Insect Glaive is the use of wounds. When you destroy a wound with Focused Weakness, you can immediately acquire three extracts, so it is a good idea to leave about 1 wound in preparation for when you cannot acquire extracts.

Additionally, what you need to know is Hunting Powder installation and aerial manipulation. To install Hunting Powder instead of collecting extract in Marking Aim state,Shift/R1Press. You can see the corresponding effect by attacking and detonating the powder.

Aerial manipulation is+/+You can 'Leap' through, and after floating in the air/Pressing will activate aerial evasion. You can use attack skills in the air, but it is quite difficult to hit at first, so let's get used to other operations first. However, if you want to use the 'Maximum Might' setting in the skills described below, you must play as the so-called 'ground glaive' that hardly uses aerial manipulation.

▲ Insect Glaive UI Explanation

▲ You can see the extract of the corresponding part through Marking Aim in focus mode

▲ If you attack in focus mode, the insect will automatically collect the extract. Acquire all 3 extracts when using Focused Weakness

▲ Always use Soaring Spinning Slash before the 3-extract enhancement state ends

■ Insect Glaive Main Skills

Recommended Attack Skills:Critical Boost (Critical Jewel), Airborne-Attack (Airborne/Attack Jewel), Attack (Attack Jewel)

Optional Attack Skills:-

Recommended Defense Skills:Weakness Exploit (Tenderizer Jewel), Burst (Burst Jewel), Heroics (Hero Jewel), Maximum Might (Maximum Might Jewel), Constitution (Constitution Jewel)

Optional Defense Skills:Resentment (Resent Jewel), Evade Extender (Evader Jewel), Earplugs (Earplug Jewel), Challenger (Challenger Jewel)

For attack skills, use 'Airborne-Attack Jewel' to increase the power and attack power of jump attacks. 'Maximum Might Jewel' is also used to see high affinity, but if you set up Maximum Might, you will refrain from aerial manipulation as much as possible, so it is best to choose what play style you want first.

If you want to play an Insect Glaive that mainly uses aerial manipulation rather than a ground glaive, it is recommended to use 'Evader Jewel' instead of Maximum Might to increase mobility. The remaining slots can be filled with Attack Jewel, Tenderizer Jewel, Critical Jewel, Constitution Jewel, or Earplug Jewel.

■ The best is Artier, the insect is your preference! Insect Glaive Weapon/Insect Selection

The best Insect Glaive weapon is the Artier weapon 'Diprielrica'. Here, depending on personal preference, you can choose whether to choose the blast attribute or the paralysis attribute. Regardless of the attribute, the Artier bonus is generally recommended to be 3 basic attack power increases, and the restoration enhancement is generally recommended to be 4 attack power + 1 sharpness.

Also, there is no overwhelmingly good insect, so it can be said that it is a matter of preference. Generally, 'Zamir Beetle' with extract collection and weak point focus is used. If you prefer convenience over DPS, you can use 'Arzonia' with gathering shortening, and if you value speed the most, you can use 'Banriel'. It doesn't matter much if you use other insects. Since 3 extracts are important, it is convenient to have extract collection as much as possible, but choose an insect that suits your play style.

▲ Make an Artier weapon with blast or paralysis attribute with 3 basic attack power. Restoration enhancement is attack power 4 + sharpness 1

▲ 'Zamir Beetle' is generally used for insects, but you can use other insects depending on your preference

■ The fastest weapon in TA record! Introduction to Insect Glaive Custom

● General Ground Glaive Custom (Paralysis)

This is a custom that adopts the paralysis attribute Diprielrica and the Hunting Insect Arzonia. The Ogre Dragon 2 set is used to use Maximum Might stably, and 'Challenger Charm II' is adopted to match Challenger level 5. Note that you must use Alpha, not Beta, for Ogre Dragon Arm and Gore Coil. This will add Challenger and Heroics level 1 to complete the setting.

▲ Ground Glaive Custom using Maximum Might

● TA Record Achievement Ground Glaive Custom (Blast)

This is a TA custom that uses the blast attribute Diprielrica. It has achieved the fastest record among the Monster Hunter Wilds TAs discovered so far. The Hunting Insect chose 'Koenig Gore Beetle' with attribute enhancement and stamina recovery.

What is unique is that it has invested a lot in 'Resentment', which increases attack power and defense power when it is below 35%, and even used 'Resentment Charm III' to match level 5. It may seem difficult to manage stamina because it is not an Ogre Dragon set, but this is compensated for by adopting the series effect 'Scale Stacking Research', which reduces stamina consumption when health is below 40%.

The 'Bomber' skill was selected to start by hitting yourself with a bomb to reduce your health to the extreme, but you can replace it with something else in normal situations. It is a setting for achieving extreme records, so please modify and apply it according to your personal preference.
