Heavy Machine Gun itself! The satisfying Monster Hunter Wilds Heavy Bowgun

Recommended for users who want to observe and react to patterns
Outstanding performance and stability of auto guard
Refreshing firepower projection of machine gun bullets that blows away stress

The Heavy Bowgun is a shooting weapon that is even larger than the Light Bowgun. It is usually folded in half for storage, but when drawn, it unfolds. Its appearance resembles a large-caliber rifle bullet or a cannon, making it larger and more powerful! It is a weapon loved by military enthusiasts who dream of greater and more powerful firepower!

In this installment, it has a mix of advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that the coefficient of machine gun bullets has been increased, and the amount of firepower projection has increased due to the sub-weapon function.

The disadvantage is that, unlike the previous game, the types of ammunition are quite limited, so in fact, only normal bullets / piercing bullets / elemental bullets are used, resulting in a monotonous hunting pattern. In particular, the disappearance of sniping stances such as lying down to shoot is a personal disappointment.

Still, it is quite a suitable weapon for beginners. Even if you don't operate it, it becomes an auto guard if you just stand still, which is good for survival, and although you need to have some aim, the long range makes it easy to observe the monster's attack patterns and adapt to the game. To put it simply, it is a very intuitive weapon that can be summarized as aim and shoot.

■ Heavy Bowgun Resource Types

Focus Shot and Dragon Heat Gauge

Focus Shot:Like the Light Bowgun's Focus Shot, shooting at wounds can cause flinching.

ㄴIn Dragon Heat Mode, you can increase the power by holding.

ㄴAutomatically recovers over time, up to 3 shots stocked

Dragon Heat Mode:Switches to a motion of attaching a special magazine to the barrel, allowing for 4 types of actions: Machine Gun Bullet / Piercing Bullet / Suppression Bullet / Cluster Bomb until the Dragon Heat Gauge is completely consumed.

Without thinking too hard, if you see a weak point, try to shoot it with the same command as other weapons, and when the Dragon Heat Gauge is full, fire machine gun bullets, and when the gauge is completely consumed, return to normal mode and fill the gauge with 3 types of normal bullets.

■ Heavy Bowgun Customization

◆ Enhancement Parts

Additional Magazine:Adds 1 round to the magazine capacity of the corresponding ammo type

Reinforced Powder:Enhances the level (power) of the corresponding ammo type

Augmented Parts/Normal Mode:Increases the power of Normal Ammo / Pierce Ammo / Spread Ammo

Augmented Parts/Dragon Heat Mode:Increases the power of Machine Gun Bullet / Piercing Bullet / Suppression Bullet / Dragon Heat Cluster Bomb

Dragon Heat Recovery Enhancement Part:Increases Dragon Heat Gauge rise and recovery speed

◆ Special Ammo

Machine Gun Bullet: A motion of firing physical bullets in rapid succession like a machine gun. The more continuous the attack, the higher the damage.

Piercing Bullet: A special bullet that is equipped instead of Machine Gun Bullet. It can be seen as an increased range version of Pierce Ammo.

Suppression Bullet: A close-range special bullet that is activated with Y(R key) in Dragon Heat Mode. It has a suppression effect, and the power increases when held.

Dragon Heat Cluster Bomb: A mid-range special bullet that is activated with Y(R key) in Dragon Heat Mode. It is used with the feeling of shooting a Cluster Bomb.

The Heavy Bowgun's customization menu is similar to the Light Bowgun, but there are some differences in the enhancement parts. For augmented parts, there are two types: Normal Mode and Dragon Heat Mode, each of which increases the power of the ammo in the corresponding mode.

The Dragon Heat Recovery Enhancement Part is, as the name suggests, a part that speeds up the Dragon Heat Gauge recovery speed. If you mainly fight in Dragon Heat Mode, choose Dragon Heat Recovery Enhancement or Dragon Heat Mode, and if you enjoy fighting with Normal Ammo and in Normal Mode, choose Normal Mode Enhancement.

Depending on the weapon, there may be types that are specialized in only one side, such as having no Normal Mode or no Dragon Heat Mode, so customize according to your style.

■ Heavy Bowgun's Identity! Dragon Heat Mode

Dragon Heat Mode is the source of the Heavy Bowgun's damage that can unleash firepower from the beginning. Of course, later on, depending on the settings, you may hardly use Dragon Heat Mode, but the basic Heavy Bowgun's damage cycle is to fill the Dragon Heat Gauge in Normal Mode ▶ Enter Dragon Heat Mode and pour out Machine Gun Bullets ▶ Return to Normal Mode and fill the Dragon Heat Gauge again.

There are cases where you shoot elemental bullets or fire Weakness Exploit bullets in between, but the series' traditional damage cycle can be said to be as above.

The special bullets fired in Dragon Heat Mode are only affected by the Dragon Heat Gauge, and even if there are no bullets before entering Dragon Heat Mode, it is calculated as separate bullets, so there is no problem.

To fill the Dragon Heat Gauge, attacking with 3 types of normal bullets (Normal Ammo, Pierce Ammo, Spread Ammo) will fill it up each time you attack, allowing you to recover even faster. Ammo types other than normal bullets (such as elemental bullets) will not fill it up, so if you are playing mainly with elemental bullets, equip Normal Mode enhancement parts and fight.

You can enter Dragon Heat Mode even if the gauge is not full, and conversely, you can end the mode without consuming the entire Dragon Heat Gauge.

For special bullets, most people choose Machine Gun Bullet and Suppression Bullet. Piercing Bullet and Cluster Bomb are not preferred because the return value is low compared to the pre- and post-delay.

▲ The basic operation is to fill the Dragon Heat Gauge and spam Machine Gun Bullets

#. Choosing Ammo Type

The method of choosing ammo on the pad is to press the Y or A key while holding LB, and the method of choosing ammo with the mouse is to move the wheel up and down.

Refer to the link below for the types and effects of ammo that exist in Monster Hunter.

▶ Monster Hunter Wilds Ammo Types and How to Use Them

▲ Keyboard and mouse can be easily selected with the mouse wheel

#. Auto Guard - Manual Guard (Just Guard)

The Heavy Bowgun can auto guard all frontal attacks if you are doing nothing in the drawn state. If the monster looks like it's about to do something, the best thing to do is to stop shooting and stand still while looking at the monster.

However, attacks coming from behind or from the side are not guarded, and the stagger from guarding is also large, so it is beneficial to use Just Guard if you know the pattern.

The pad is simple with Y+A (or △+○), but the keyboard boasts a command of shock and horror called R+F keys. It is better to change it to another key if you can.

If you succeed in guarding a specific pattern, you can arm wrestle like other guard weapons depending on the probability, and you can greatly recover the Dragon Heat Gauge. Additionally, pressing the evade button will take a very long distance evade action.

▲ Which developer's head did the idea of the keyboard and mouse manual guard key come from?

▲ It is good to understand Just Guard well

#. Dragon Heat Mode - Suppression Bullet

It is a means to aim for suppression, but it is not actually used much. First of all, it is not instant, and it has a long flow of entering Dragon Heat Mode and then loading Suppression Bullet, so it is okay to forget about it.

Think of it as only shooting Machine Gun Bullets in Dragon Heat Mode for both Piercing Bullet and Cluster Bomb.

■ Heavy Bowgun Weapon Choices

Similar to the Light Bowgun, Pierce Ammo builds are popular, and Artier weapons are not preferred due to the problem that there are too few ammo types and the settings are difficult. Of course, Artier is the end weapon at the current point, but there is no big difference from production weapons, and rather, production weapons have the advantage of being able to use various ammo types, so choose according to your preference.

If you want to use a Pierce build, you often use the Gore Magala weapon, TriggerofDemise, or the Dodobrango weapon, Wild Stinger.

Normal Ammo is not used due to DPS issues, and Spread Ammo is not used due to recoil issues. Other than Pierce Ammo builds, Elemental Ammo builds are the most used, and in fact, most of the TA, which is called 'poaching' videos, use Elemental Ammo builds.

▲ Choose a weapon with a high Pierce Ammo level and good damage!

■ Heavy Bowgun Main Skills by Part

Weapon:First Shot Jewel (First Shot Skill), Force Shot Jewel (Force Shot Skill), Ballistics Jewel (Ballistics Enhancement Skill)

Select Attack Skills:Critical Jewel (Critical Eye Skill), Pierce Jewel (Pierce Ammo/Dragon Piercer Enhancement Skill), Normal Jewel (Normal Ammo/Normal Arrow Enhancement Skill), Special Shot Jewel (Special Ammo Boost Skill), Iron Wall Jewel (Guard Up Skill)

Armor Set Skills:Hohyo Bird Wyvern Set (Nightmare Rampage), Gore Set (Malzeno Power), Thorny Black Dragon Set (Thunder Serpent Narwa's Will)

The Thorny Black Dragon set is commonly used as a Might set, as it is a good weapon to use the Might (Critical Eye increases when stamina is at max for a certain time) skill.

If you want to increase the damage a little more, adopt the Gore set, and if you want to take care of utility such as Earplugs, we recommend the Hohyo Bird Wyvern set.

■ Heavy Bowgun Setting Recommendations

◆ Pierce + Machine Gun Heat Special Set

It can be said to be a so-called orthodox Heavy Bowgun build that fights mainly with Pierce Ammo and Machine Gun Bullet damage. It focuses on critical rate, and if you want to take care of utility, you can replace it with other things such as Earplugs or Evade Extender.

◆ Hohyo Bird Wyvern Set that can be set up easily and quickly

The Hohyo Bird Wyvern set basically provides Earplugs, Chain Crit, and Divine Blessing skills, so it is evaluated as a set with excellent utility performance. The strength is that you can use it widely depending on whether you want to equip the ammo type skill you want to specialize in and whether you want to take care of more utility or deal damage with the remaining skills.

◆ Elemental Ammo Build Setting based on Gore Set

The weapon is set with the elemental jewel of the corresponding element, and the rest can be seen as parts that are almost commonly used. Utility is somewhat lacking, but let's trust the performance of the auto guard and endure.
