HLE Head Coach Choi In-kyu Secures First Regular Season Win After Defeating KT… “Confirmed Potential for Growth”

In the 5th match of Round 1 of the 2025 LCK Regular League, Hanwha Life Esports defeated KT Rolster 2:1 after a full set, marking their first win of the regular season. They took the lead and won the first set, but KT Rolster struck back in the second set. However, in the third set, they secured a thrilling victory with 'Zeus' Choi Woo-je's fantastic aggro ping pong, leading to a win in the final team fight.

Choi In-kyu, the coach of Hanwha Life Esports (HLE), who won the 2025 LCK Regular League match held on the 4th, revealed his thoughts on the match and team management through an interview.

Regarding the victory, coach Choi In-kyu said, "After the loss in the previous match, I wanted to show a dominant performance, but we won 2:1," and assessed, "It was a match where we confirmed areas where the team can improve."

When asked about the insufficient tier list arrangement mentioned in the previous match, he replied, "The tier list arrangement is not 100% complete, but there were no major regrets in terms of draft picks in today's match." However, regarding the loss in the second set, he mentioned, "An unexpected situation occurred," and added, "We have secured data by playing three matches, allowing us to have more discussions."

Regarding the draft strategy focused on taking the lead in the first set, he analyzed, "After the loss in the previous match, we made changes to the draft picks and champion priority, and the result of paying more attention to objective control, such as larvae, led to today's victory." Regarding the opposing team's choice of the Naafiri-Orianna combo, he evaluated, "The Orianna-Naafiri combo is easy to link ultimates like Nocturne-Orianna, and it is an effective combo for creating a gold difference in early to mid-game skirmishes."

Regarding the criticism that the team's recent form is not good, he said, "There may be several reasons, such as insufficient tier list arrangement and lack of adaptation to the patch version," but added, "I think we can show a good performance and improve through feedback." Finally, regarding 'Zeus' Choi Woo-je's form, he concluded the interview by mentioning, "We are operating the team in a way that trusts the player's opinion and gives autonomy."
