Assassin's Creed Shadows Could Be Headed to Nintendo Switch 2 Per Leaks

Recent updates on the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) website potentially revealed that Assassin's Creed Shadows could be on its way to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Ubisoft is yet to officially confirm the news, but thePEGI homepage briefly listed the game as being available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC—and, notably, Nintendo Switch 2.

While the homepage listing sparked the speculation, the individual rating page for the game didn't mention Switch 2. However, Ubisoft has a long history of supporting Nintendo platforms as the developer released countless games on various video game giant consoles. Considering Ubisoft already has plans to release Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2, it wouldn't be surprising to see Shadows following its lead.

If the leak is accurate, this would mark the first time a full-scale, modern Assassin's Creed game arrives on a Nintendo platform. Assassin's Creed Black Flag and Rogue are two of the most recent titles that were ported to Nintendo Switch, and these games were originally launched in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be much more capable than its predecessor in terms of hardware. However, Ubisoft may still need to make compromises when it comes to graphics. A handheld console could struggle to pack a strong enough punch to deliver the same level of dynamic weather and visual clarity experience compared to full-sized consoles and PCs.

For the time being, Shadows' Switch 2 listing remains unconfirmed until Ubisoft offers an official statement. Nintendo's console releases tend to be wild, though, so there's a chance Ubisoft would like to ride the launch hype train before other developers start porting their games. Having Switch 2-ready games during the console's initial launch period could boost sales numbers for developers.

AC Shadows averaged a Meta Critic score of above 80 following its release, which puts it next to some of the most recent hits from the franchise, like Odyssey and Valhalla. Depending on Ubisoft and Nintendo's partnership, the developer could also consider porting older Assassin's Creed games to Switch 2. Hardware has always been the main barrier behind Ubisoft's decision to hold back, and there's a massive backlog that the developer could work through after AC Rogue.
