Learn how to optimize Project Zomboid to improve performance and increase FPS. This video guides you through eight tricks, including RAM adjustments, use of specific mods, texture optimization and graphic configurations, so you can enjoy a smoother gaming experience in Build 41, Build 42 and future versions.
1. 🚀 Increase the RAM allocated to Project Zomboid
- ✅ Project Zomboid consumes a lot of RAM, especially with mods.
- ✅ By default, the game only uses 3 GB of RAM.
- ✅ It is possible to increase the RAM allocated to improve performance.
- Go to the Steam library, right-click on Project Zomboid, select 'Manage' and then 'Local Files'.
- Find the 'ProjectZomboid64.json' file and open it with a text editor.
- Modify the text lines to adjust the minimum and maximum RAM that the game will use. Make sure the syntax is correct.
- To find out how much RAM you have available, check the Task Manager (Performance -> Memory).
- Adjust the values according to your components. The video author uses between 4 and 7 GB of RAM.

2. 🛠️ Visual optimization with the 'Better FPS' mod
- ✅ The 'Better FPS' mod reduces vision to improve FPS.
- ✅ The installation is different for Build 41 and Build 42.
- For Build 41: Download the file from the link in the description, unzip it, and choose a resolution (the lower the resolution, the more FPS). Replace the file in the game folder (ProjectZomboid -> zombie -> ISO).
- For Build 42: Replace the 'zombie' folder inside the game folder. Subscribe to the Workshop mod (link in the description) and activate it. Choose the tile option you prefer in the mod options.

3. ⚙️ Zoom Settings for better performance
- ⚠️ Avoid zoom values greater than 150% in the game settings.
- ⚠️ Due to limitations of the game engine, higher values can cause a significant drop in FPS.
- ✅ The less you see, the more FPS you will have.
02:31 - 03:17
4. 🖼️ 'Every Texture Optimized' Mod: Optimized textures without losing quality
- ✅ This mod optimizes the game's textures while maintaining visual quality.
- ✅ Compatible with any version of the game.
- ⚠️ If you use other texture mods, the installation must be manual.
- If you don't use other texture mods, just subscribe and activate the mod.
- For manual installation: Copy the mod ID, find the folder in Steam, and copy the 'media' folder (or the '42' folder inside it if you have Build 42) to the game folder. Then, you can unsubscribe from the mod.

5. 🖥️ Disable UI rendering
- ✅ Disabling UI rendering can increase FPS, but sometimes limits it to 30.
- ✅ It depends on whether you use mods like Inventory Tetris, which require this option to be activated.
- ✅ Try activating and deactivating the option to see which one works best on your computer.
03:43 - 04:00
6. 🎒 'Alternative Inventory Rendering' Mod: Improved inventory and more FPS
- ✅ This mod improves the inventory visually and adds useful functions.
- ✅ Increases FPS.
- ✅ Available for Build 41 and 42.
- ✅ Just subscribe and activate the mod.
04:01 - 04:25
7. 👕 Basic textures on clothing and weapons for greater performance
- ✅ Activating basic textures on clothing and weapons (both of the character and the zombies) improves FPS.
- ✅ This prevents so many different textures and variables from being loaded, although the game does not look so detailed.
04:26 - 05:05
8. 🧟 'Renderless Zombies' Mod: Shadows instead of zombies to optimize
- ✅ This mod changes the texture of the zombies to a black shadow when there are a large number in the field of vision.
- For Build 41: Download the file from the link in the description, unzip it, and choose a number of zombies. Replace the file in the game folder.
- For Build 42: Replace the 'zombie' folder inside the game folder. Subscribe to the Workshop mod (link in the description) and activate it. Choose the number of zombies that will load their textures in the mod options.

9. ⭐ Extra Trick: Minimum graphic configuration
- ✅ If the previous tricks are not enough, configure the game with the graphic options at the minimum.
- ✅ Although it doesn't look so good, prioritize playing with good FPS.
