The 'Kazeroth the First' event, which concluded last August, has been embroiled in unexpected controversy. The issue stems from the 'Kazeroth physical statue' promised to the first clear party. This statue, which embodies Kazeroth, the final boss and symbolic figure of Lost Ark, was personally mentioned by Director Jeon Jae-hak at the last showcase as a "meaningful trophy to commemorate the glory of the first capture."
However, on November 12, Lost Ark announced through an official website notice that it would be impossible to provide the 'Abyssal Lord Kazeroth Statue'. This is because they received a rejection notice for content modification from the Game Rating and Administration Committee. The first clear party has already received in-game rewards such as the 'Metropolitan Return Statue' and exclusive titles, but the physical statue appears to have violated legal regulations.
The reason for blocking the statue distribution is Article 28, Clause 3 (Compliance Matters for Game-Related Business Operators) of the Game Industry Promotion Act. This clause specifies "Do not encourage speculation by providing prizes, etc.", and exceptionally allows 'toys and stationery worth 5,000 won or less' to be provided through a 'prize payout device' only for 'all-ages games in the youth game service business' within the scope set by the Presidential Decree.
The problem is that this clause, in principle, prohibits 'providing prizes based on game results'. Lost Ark is a game for ages 19 and older, not for youth, and the 'Kazeroth Statue' was also scheduled to be given only to the first clear party (1st place). In other words, the structure of providing expensive physical goods based on game play results (ranking) corresponds exactly to the clause prohibiting 'encouraging speculation through prize provision' in the law.
Lost Ark stated in the notice, "We tried to convey that the Abyssal Lord Kazeroth Statue is a symbolic trophy to commemorate your efforts and skills, but unfortunately, we have received a final decision that it is difficult to provide it according to related regulations." He added, "We apologize to everyone who watched and supported the event," and announced that they would instead provide the first clear party with an official invitation to the 'Winter Showcase'.
Lost Ark promised, “We will ensure that the same problem does not recur in all future events by prioritizing compliance with laws and regulations and preparing more thoroughly.”
Meanwhile, a certain adventurer, who is an actual member of the first clear party, said in an interview with this paper, "It's a shame that the reward was canceled. Many team members feel burdened by participating in the showcase."
