Project Zomboid Build 42.14: Overview of Changes and Fixes
This patch 42.14 for Project Zomboid brings many improvements and fixes, especially for multiplayer, immersion, crafting, and gameplay balancing. It is advised to save your character before updating due to possible save corruptions.
1. ⚠️ Save your character before updating to Build 42.14
- ✅ Risk of losing your character (inventory, skills, recipes) when converting the game to 42.14.
- ✅ Recommended solution: Use the "CHARACTER SAVE" mod (link in description) to back up your character from 42.13 and import it into 42.14.
- ✅ Alternative: Stay on the "Hate unstable" branch (42.13) if you encounter problems, but you will not benefit from the new features.

2. 🪑 Immersion improvements: Sitting and new vehicle lighting
- ✅ Possibility to sit on various objects (hay bales, toilets) with animations.
- ✅ Vehicle taillights now emit light, improving nighttime visibility.
- ✅ Improved collision management with zombie ragdolls for a more realistic rendering.
- ⚠️ Animals are more cautious and run away earlier when vehicles approach.

3. 🚗 Temporary removal of the 'Motion Sensitive' trait
- ✅ The "Motion Sensitive" trait (motion sickness) has been removed from the game and will return later. This trait caused excessive fever after only a few seconds of driving.

4. 🔊 Sound and visual improvements: New sounds and weapon visibility
- ✅ Added new sounds for cooking, stone mining, vehicles (different sounds depending on the type of road), chickens, and animals in general.
- ✅ Weapons are now directly visible on armory counters.

5. 🧵 New Crafting: Dental floss, fishing line, and forge
- ✅ Use of dental floss for sewing.
- ✅ Fishing line can be used for sewing and various repairs. Premium fishing line is used in higher-level crafts.
- ✅ Bug fix: Unable to remove the bellows once installed in the forge.
- ✅ To build in stone (walls), you now need stone blocks and no longer just stones.

6. 🔫 Changes regarding weapons and ammunition
- ✅ The .223 caliber disappears and is replaced by the 5.56 caliber.
- ✅ Several weapons are renamed (ex: Revolver M625 -> Patrol Revolver, M14 -> M1A).
- ⚠️ The shotgun capacity is slightly reduced.
- ✅ Weight change for several weapons and ammunition.

7. 🎮 Gameplay Changes: Stress, nicotine, and zombies opening doors
- ✅ Stress is now linked to discomfort and no longer to sadness.
- ✅ Nicotine reduces hunger.
- ✅ New setting for sandbox mode: possibility to adjust the exact percentage of zombies capable of opening doors.

- ✅ Improved right-click: direct access to recipes using the clicked object.
- ✅ "Read all" option to read multiple books in a row.
- ✅ More interactivity with the elements of the decor.
- ✅ Possibility to wash the car via the radial menu.
- ✅ Option to barricade a window or door directly via a right click.
- ✅ Faster animation for dropping a corpse dragged on the ground.

9. 🐛 Bugfixes in multiplayer
- ✅ Fixed the bug of attacks that go through zombies.
- ✅ Fixed the bug of magazines disappearing when reloading.
- ✅ Improved the increase of disease due to corpses.

- ✅ Fixed the bug of the character not being able to get into a vehicle.
