Path of Exile 3.28 Illusion League: Gale Blade General's Cry Berserker Starter GuideIntroducing a powerful melee starter build for Path of Exile 3.28 Phantom League: the Blade Flurry General's Cry Berserker. This build boasts high damage, and with the addition of a Level 1 Support Gem option to a Level 20 Skill Gem, it's easy to secure a strong Impale chance. It can smoothly progress from the Acts to Tier 16 maps, showing excellent performance in boss rushing and currency farming.
1. 🎮 Blade Flurry General's Cry Berserker Build Mechanism
· Due to the General's Cry changes in the 3.27 season, Mirage Warriors now always attack once and then disappear, making a short cooldown acceptable.
· The basic mechanism is to use General's Cry over corpses to summon Mirage Warriors that use Blade Flurry.
· Blade Flurry is a Channelling skill, so higher attack speed allows it to reach higher stages. Damage is amplified by increasing the number of Mirage Warriors, Blade Flurry damage, attack speed, critical strike chance, etc.
· Currently, Blade Flurry deals Physical Damage. Later, securing Impale chance and effect will make the build even stronger.
· This season, you can corrupt a Level 20 active skill gem to gain an additional Level 1 support gem. Attaching a Level 1 Impale Support to Blade Flurry easily grants a base 60% Impale chance.
· Corpse generation, essential for General's Cry, is automated by linking Desecrate to Cast While Channelling Support with Cyclone.
· This season, Automation's mana reservation increased from 15% to 20%, but it's still manageable.
· This build has weaker survivability compared to others, so instead of vaguely trying to improve defenses, focusing on increasing damage will contribute more to survival.
· Link Infused Channelling Support to Cyclone to gain 14% reduced damage taken while channelling Cyclone, and secure Armour from body armour or boots.
· Aim for about 20,000 Armour with flasks, and link Steelskin to Automation to gain approximately 2,400 shield.
· Secure basic 75% Elemental Resistances and maximize Chaos Resistance. In endgame setups, using Bottled Faith significantly improves survivability. Until then, proceed with the mindset that 'damage is survival'.

2. ✨ Core Item and Skill Gem Setup Guide
· Item setup is the final stage of a starter build; initially, begin with rare gear and budget uniques.
· Equipping Praxis, Ichimonji, a 5-6 link body armour, Abyssus, and Tanui's Harmless in that order allows for smooth progression up to Tier 16.
· Equipping Praxis, Ichimonji, a 5-6 link body armour, Abyssus, and Tanui's Harmless in that order allows for smooth progression up to Tier 16.
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Weapon (Ichimonji) | · High physical damage and attack speed are desirable, usable from Level 58. · It's cheap, around 1-2 Chaos Orbs, making it an excellent budget weapon for starters. · Later, upgrade to a 5-socket weapon with increased Impale chance and attack speed. · Skill Gems: Precision (Life Reservation), Ancestral Protector, Berserk (use whenever Rage is full) |
| Helmet (Abyssus) | · Essential for its cheap 100%+ Melee Critical Strike Multiplier and 40-60 flat physical damage. · It's the most cost-effective helmet for physical damage-only builds. · Build Up: Use one with the 'Corrupted' implicit 'Socketed Gems have 90% increased Cost & Reservation Multiplier' to enable Determination aura instead of Herald of Purity. · Skill Gems: Blood and Sand, Determination, Herald of Purity, Pride (all are damage-boosting auras, use Sand Stance) |
| Body Armour (Rare 6-Link) | · Use one with high maximum life and various resistances. · Eater of Worlds Implicit: Chance to gain Fortify on Melee Hit · Searing Exarch Implicit: Critical Strike Multiplier for Attacks or increased Aura Effect · A white base body armour with Armour is even better. · Skill Gems: Maim Support, Melee Physical Damage Support, Brutality Support, Blade Flurry, Automation, General's Cry · Maximize General's Cry quality to 20% to add one additional Mirage Warrior. · Candidate Level 1 Support Gems to add to Blade Flurry with a Coin of Agility: Impale Support, Increased Attack Speed Support, Close Combat Support, Fist of War Support, Infused Channelling Support, Increased Critical Damage Support, etc. |
| Shield (Lioneye's Remorse) | · Chosen for its high Armour and maximum life for its early-game price. · Build Up: Can be replaced with a rare shield or another shield. · Skill Gems: Automation, Steelskin, Increased Duration Support · At around 20,000 Armour, Steelskin's shield amount is higher than Molten Shell. Replace with Molten Shell if Armour is 25,000 or more. |
| Gloves (Tanui's Harmless) | · Used for the '10% chance to gain Adrenaline for 2 seconds' option (100% increased Attack Damage, 25% increased Attack/Cast/Movement Speed). · Affordable and suitable for a starter. · Build Up: Replace with gloves that have 'Enemies you Hit are Cursed with Vulnerability'. · Skill Gems: Mark on Hit Support, Assassin's Mark, Dash, Leap Slam · Use Assassin's Mark instead of Vulnerability to increase critical strike chance and multiplier for rare/boss monsters. · When building up, first secure 'Apply an additional Curse' on body armour, then 'Enemies you Hit are Cursed with Vulnerability' on gloves to boost damage. · For movement skills, Whirling Blades or Flame Dash are also viable alternatives to Leap Slam. |
| Belt (Ryslatha's Coil) | · Use one with high maximum physical attack damage amplification and low minimum physical attack damage reduction. · A higher maximum physical attack damage amplification value results in a greater damage difference, so choose the highest possible. · Before Ryslatha's Coil, use a Stygian Vise or a rare belt with maximum life and various resistances. |
| Boots (Rare) | · Purchase boots with high maximum life, movement speed, and various resistances. · Eater of Worlds Implicit: Increased Cooldown Recovery Rate · Searing Exarch Implicit: Increased Action Speed or missing resistances · Skill Gems: Cyclone, Cast While Channelling Support, Desecrate (fixed Level 1), Controlled Blaze Support · Desecrate is fixed at Level 1 to prevent increased mana cost. |
| Amulet (Ashes of the Stars) | · Use 'Mystic Bulwark' as an Anoint. · Don't go for Ashes of the Stars immediately; use Hyrri's Truth first and upgrade later. · Increasing skill gem quality with Ashes of the Stars allows up to 7 Mirage Warriors to be summoned, significantly boosting damage. · In the early starter phase, Hyrri's Truth provides Level 30 Precision and global critical strike multiplier effect. · At this point, using Portal and Cast on Death Support in the weapon's Precision and Ancestral Protector slots can improve convenience. |
| Rings (2 Rares) | · Prioritize rings with various resistances and an open prefix. · Both rings must have an open prefix to craft mana cost reduction, making mana management easier. · 'Reduced Mana Cost of Channelling Skills' and 'Reduced Mana Cost of Channelling Skills' (if distinct) must be crafted separately to properly reduce the mana cost of Cyclone and other skills. · If mana is insufficient, take the 'Skills Cost 15% of Mana as Life' node in the Life Mastery. · Securing a total of 50%+ Chaos Resistance from two rare rings improves survivability. · Before mana cost reduction crafting, using a 'Praxis' ring with -7 or more mana cost reduction makes mana management easy. |
| Flasks | · Lion's Roar: Increased Armour, Melee Physical Damage Amplification · Life Flask: Immunity to Corrupted Blood · Basalt Flask: Increased Movement Speed · Diamond Flask: Increased Armour · Quicksilver Flask: Increased Critical Strike Chance · Later, replace Basalt Flask with 'Bottled Faith'. |
| Jewels | · Use 3 Rare Jewels, 2 Small Cluster Jewels, 2 Medium Cluster Jewels, and 2 Large Cluster Jewels. · Large Cluster Jewels (2): Physical Damage base with 'Martial Prowess', 'Iron Breaker', 'Master of the Fundamentals' nodes. · Medium Cluster Jewels (2): Increased Damage with Attack Skills base with 'Mob Mentality', 'Warning Call', 'Cry Wolf', 'Lead by Example' nodes. · In the early league, use ones with only 'Mob Mentality' and either craft or purchase better ones later. · Small Cluster Jewels (2): Chaos Resistance base with 3 passive skills, using one with 'Antivenom' makes it easy to secure 50% Chaos Resistance. · Unique Small Cluster Jewel (Kitava's Teachings): Not mandatory, but provides mana leech for better sustain. Use if cheap, otherwise substitute with a rare jewel. · Rare Jewels: Secure increased maximum life, global critical strike multiplier, melee critical strike multiplier, critical strike multiplier with one-handed weapons, increased attack speed with swords, missing resistances and stats, mana reservation efficiency of skills, etc. · Later, upgrade to high-end jewels. · Watcher's Eye: 'Impales you inflict while using Pride last 2 additional Hits' option contributes to damage increase. · Timeless Jewel (Lethal Pride Nasima): Can be changed to 'Overwhelming Odds' to gain 25% increased Melee Critical Strike Chance. Initially use rare jewels, then switch to an affordable Lethal Pride Nasima to easily secure critical strike chance. |

4. 📈 Build Playstyle Tips and Final Advice
· This build is very strong for boss rushing, making it advantageous for currency farming.
· However, survivability can be weak, leading to levelling stress. Therefore, it's recommended to set a target level and run Tier 16 Magic rarity maps, avoiding tough map mods like Physical Reflect, to level up first.
· As damage increases, survivability also improves. Farming currency with Destructive Play runs can quickly accelerate build progression.
· The damage output is sufficient to acquire all 4 Voidstones yourself, so only practice boss patterns is needed.
