Crusader Kings 3: A Dying World, Godherja Mod Deep Dive
1. 📜 Godherja: The Dying World's Grim History
· The world of Godherja was created by the monotheistic god Arsenon, who created humanity to alleviate his loneliness, and then the Elves (Elfir) for better conversation.
· The Elves cruelly ruled humanity, enslaving them and sacrificing them in magical rituals, leading humanity to wage a cataclysmic war that annihilated the Elves.
· After the war, human mages, fearing Arsenon's retribution, attacked him with a massive spell, which either killed the god or severed his connection to the world.
· The death of the god caused cracks in reality, leading to unpredictable magical phenomena and 'Gera,' a reality-warping event. Gera manifests in various forms, such as people burning or cities disappearing.
· During the Averesserian Empire era, Gera phenomena amplified the vices of mages, leading to civil war. Two powerful mages, Axioa and Akres, caused massive casualties with a 'self-replicating blood magic' spell.
· The aftermath of this spell created cracks in reality, from which 'Nightmare Fog' began to emanate. This fog drives people mad or mutates them, and nightmare creatures lurk within it.
· The Nightmare Fog caused large-scale population migrations, and this point marks the beginning of the mod.

2. 🎮 Godherja Mod's Core Systems: Magic and Migration
· The mod features unexplored territories across the world; some can be colonized if habitability conditions are met, while others are irrecoverable due to necromantic magic or Nightmare Fog.
· The Nightmare Fog imposes penalties on adjacent regions and contains maddened humans and mutated fog monsters. Some mages can utilize this fog for their magic.
· Mages in this world are called 'Magi' and can manipulate reality at will. The magic system has the following characteristics:
CategoryDetails
Arcana StatA new base character stat representing magical knowledge.
Displayed with a shimmering orb icon.
Magic Potential TraitAn innate trait, displayed with a hand holding magical essence icon.
Divided into 20 tiers, it determines basic magical ability and the amount of magic that can be cast before overloading.
A typical Magi has the 'Talented Magi' trait (tier 3).
Powerful mages can be cultivated through selective marriages, luck, and dynasty traits.
Magic Schools and SpellsThere are 36 magic schools, each with approximately 10 spells.
The most common 'Life Magic' school includes over 50 spells.
Each spell is associated with one or more 'aspects' (e.g., Fire, Water), and characters with expertise in that aspect have a higher spell success rate.
Spell Casting and OvercastingClick the magic bar in the bottom left to view and cast available spells.
Spells can be 'overcast' to increase their effect, but this can endanger the caster's life.
You can cast spells yourself or through your court mage, who can attempt dangerous overcasts.
Types of SpellsSpells exist with various effects, such as increasing income, generating money, killing enemies, troop bonuses, summoning monsters/skeletons, increasing aspect knowledge, and extending lifespan.

· Another important mechanism is the migration of the 'Siovali Empire.' This is a coalition of tribes and refugees moving south to escape the fog, unified by 'Witch Destroyer' Chenware.
· As Chenware advances south and conquers territory, members of the empire migrate to the newly conquered lands, changing the local religion and culture. Territories previously in the north are randomly taken over by other groups.

3. ⚔️ Chenware Playthrough Experience: Easy Conquest and a New Order
· Chenware is set to 'Easy' difficulty and possesses powerful traits along with special casus belli (CB) for specific regions of the Averesserian Empire.
· Declaring war with this CB means declaring war on all enemies in that kingdom; enemies will beg for mercy and become vassals with only one territory remaining, or be annihilated if they refuse.
· Chenware can get a large army for free in his capital, making early expansion very easy.
· As he moves south, Chenware's companions leave their temporary northern settlements to settle in the south, making some vassals and territories independent. Players can re-vassalize them, but this might not be the intended mechanic.
· Players can expand so much that they run out of people to migrate due to too many wars, eventually building a solid kingdom in the heart of the Averesserian Empire.
· Chenware even hires Akres, who brought about the end of the world, as his court mage. Akres cannot be bribed directly, but his wife can be bribed to join the court.
· The Chenware playthrough offers an easy experience of overwhelming everyone with a powerful army, but it leaves room for the world to become dynamic again as new regional powers emerge later.

4. 🌑 Nikanonius Playthrough Experience: The Dream of Rebuilding an Empire Amidst Hardship
· Nikanonius 'Black Sun' is from Averesserian, located further north than Chenware, and has no magical abilities whatsoever.
· He leads a small number of loyal soldiers on a messianic mission to save or restore the Averesserian Empire.
· This campaign is suitable for players who enjoy 'hardship and adversity.' The starting region is war-torn, his heir is incompetent, and he is surrounded by hostile forces.
· During the playthrough, his eldest son is killed by a berserker, and his youngest son dies on the battlefield, adding to the game's difficulty.
· Thanks to Nikanonius's excellent military abilities and his court mage's life-extending magic, he secured enough territory to establish his own Averesserian successor state.
· He created his own religious cult centered around his messianic belief in saving himself and the empire. The mod includes a mechanism to create cult religions centered around characters.
· Nikanonius died before reaching the old Averesserian Empire's capital, but his daughter continues his dream of rebuilding the empire.
