Naked start on a foreign beach, 'Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth'
It was revealed that the series' traditional protagonist 'Kiryu' and the new protagonist Kasuga Ichiban will appear in a double protagonist system, drawing attention to the latest installment in the Yakuza series, 'Like a Dragon 8'. The latest trailer was revealed through the Xbox Showcase. The overseas version is titled 'Infinite Wealth'.
In the newly released teaser, 'Kasuga Ichiban', who took over the protagonist position from Kiryu, wakes up naked on a beach that looks like a foreign resort. Kasuga Ichiban is comically depicted with his lower body cleverly covered by newspapers, hermit crabs, coconuts, and sunscreen until he realizes he is naked. Following the previous work where he woke up in the homeless district of Yokohama, this time the scope has been expanded to overseas. Unlike the previous work where Kamurocho was the main stage despite the appearance of a new background called Yokohama, it is expected that a wider stage will appear.
The latest installment in the Yakuza series, 'Like a Dragon 8', was first revealed through the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's new work announcement in 2022. It is expected to show an even larger scale through the two-protagonist system that has been attempted for the first time in a while since 'Yakuza Zero'.
Although Kiryu appears as a co-protagonist, the game genre will be 'turn-based RPG' as in the previous game. Masayoshi Yokoyama, the head of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, said, "Turn-based RPG was the most suitable for dealing with the story of Kasuga Ichiban pursuing his dreams while working with his colleagues and experiencing hardships, and this new work also adheres to the turn-based RPG genre because it is a concept of working together with colleagues to overcome difficulties."
Meanwhile, on the 9th, another new Yakuza series, 'Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name', was released, where you can meet Kiryu's story that was not covered in the 7th installment. This work will introduce why Kiryu, who abandoned his name and chose a secluded life for his family, clears his secluded life and reappears in Kamurocho, and what are the circumstances in which he will be with Ichiban in the latest work 'Like a Dragon 8'.
The latest installment in the Yakuza series, 'Like a Dragon 8', is scheduled to be released in early 2024 on PC, Xbox, and PS platforms.
